I had a cracking days flying today, in order for me to put this into perspective I need to explain that I bought my first heli in 2002.
Over the years I've tried in vain to learn how to fly and had many different models all of which eventually succombed to Ebay or BMFA Classifieds in order to liquidate some money or swap for some other whim.
Last year I decided enough was enough and I needed to stick to it or forget it.
Up until a few weeks ago I was genuinely considering giving it all up as I was stuck in the hover, however a move to a really supportive club (Waterfoot Heli's) and LOTS of help from some spectacular pilots there (they know who they are) my confidence began to build until a few weeks back I passed my bronze (A-Test but in Scotland). The next time I flew after that was at the Falkirk 3D day and I tried some very shaky fast forward flight and actually really enjoyed it but only flew once due to a serious bout of the shakes afterwards lol, bloody nerves...
Today, I arrived at a really busy club day up at Waterfoot and went for my first flight of the day and something clicked in my head and I went off screaming around the sky with the 450, chucking in stall turns, loops and later on, a scruffy roll. What altered this flight from all of the others was that it felt natural and fun. So after a wee break I went up and did it again and then flew my 600cf for the first time and really enjoyed it.
Today I drove home with the biggest, most stupid grin on my face ever. After what is in all honesty almost 6 years trying to fly a helicopter I accomplished it and really enjoyed it.
I can't wait 'til next weekend!!!!
