  • new ring running in?

Fitted a new ring and rear bearing to my hyper.
Should I run it in like a new motor?
How many tanks before I can give it stick?

I am no expert, but when i did my 50 Hyper with new ring and bearing, i gave it one tank to bed in then back to flying like i used to. 1 or 2 tanks should do you just fine before giving it welly!

you should treat it like a new engine so that the ring will bed in correctly
if you didn't glaze bust/hone the cylinder it will take longer for the ring to bed in

The last 2 that i done which wasnt that long ago, i treat like new engines and gave them 5 tanks of fuel before going for optimum tuning. It definately payed off as they running very nicely now.

Well, I must say that on this forum conflicting replys are actually quite rare

Of course the safest thing is to treat it like a new engine.

I was merely changing the back bearing, but I managed to break the piston ring assembling the liner back into the motor. There is no piston/liner damage.

So I will err somewhere betwen the two replies. Do a couple of tanks rich on a low head speed with only mild aerobatics.
Oh it pains me to burn fuel in this way But I can practise B cert manoevres I suppose

You answered your own question Gordon
I recently done exactly what you have done, snapped the ring after changing out the rear bearing. After the 5 rich tanks i put through it the engine runs a treat now. Probably better than it did on the originals to be honest. I dare say both methods would actually work but i went with this method to make sure it was done properly and i didnt have any more mess on.
