  • Save of the century, for me anyway :-)

Had a great morning flying, a few of us out.
Second flight, bought out the super pro, flying it around and something didn't feel quite right, was coming round on the tail, so came in on a inverted flyby and was going to flip it and land and up the gain, when all of a sudden whilst inverted about 6 foot off the ground the tail let go and started spinning
Quick on the throttle hold though and managed to roll it out and land with a punch of pitch with no damage what so ever
Collar had come undone on the tail slidder, so need a new one as it is slightly disformed, must of happened when it fell apart.
So a warning to many, when it doesn't feel right, land and check straight away rather than dicking around for another few seconds, it can go wrong very quick.

Nice tip and nice save James. Glad you got it recovered.

Just goes to show how little the screw or part may be if it comes loose then there's trouble ahead.

Another reminder why we "ALL" should undergo routine checks of our helis.

I know I do it more often now than I ever did after I lost a grub screw that holds the pinion in place on my 600e motor.

Just cost me £180 to repair because one 99p grub screw came adrift.

Or is it you have a soft spot for the bling Tim
But i know what you say about the checks, silly for me though as i only did a check on it after it's last flight but never noticed it coming loose, will be on my check list next time, and everyone else was checking theres afterwards

I had 'one of those days' yesterday. I completely lost control of my Logo 500 which had my FlyCamOne 2 camera on the bottom of the canopy. A servo screw backed out (metal geared servo) and the horn came off the splines. On a positive note I though at least I'd have the crash on video - then found I'd run out of space on the SD card shortly after take-off

Not long after I was flying my 700 and practising inverted circuits, got a little carried away and ran out of fuel, inverted around 150yds away at around 40ft. I managed to roll it and auto down, damn the 700 autos well I must have just caught the tail on landing as the tail fin was now horizontal, only damage is the spigot on the plastic spacer that goes through the gearbox and boom, slight downside is that this piece is only available with a complete tail gearbox! I think it's time for a 'Blue Peter' moment

I had a lucky escape yesterday too! Took my Trex450 up, had a bit of a zip about with it, nothing amazing as it was its first flight since I repaired it from its last crash.
Felt quite good about that, so took up my Hughes 500 nitro. Got it fired up, wound it up and lifted into the hover, no dramas so far, started to move it forward a bit and it started to vibrate really badly at the rear and the engine was making a fairly aggressive noise, managed to land it and shut down, had a quick look over but saw nothing obvious. Took it home and had another look, turned out one of the nuts that hold the fuse to the mechanics had come off!!
Not a horrendous thing, but the nuts are the type that glue into the wood inside the fuse and I don't have a spare, so have to get onto Trex Mad(where I got the fuse from) to see if they can source them!
