  • what is good flying wind..... and when you wont!

    Hi
quick one I always watch the weather like a hawk as a few
people probablt do.... My question is what is to windy...

    10mph -15mph - 20mph???

Now planes I fly in 15mphish max but helis?

a 30 size is good for what wind speeds? say 10mph?

I used to try and fly in all types of wind conditions so as not to become a fair weather pilot.

Obviously strong wind is best avoided but the worst for me was inconsistent wind conditions with nasty gusts. Those you can really do without

Not sure of the wind speeds though.

    Cheers

turbulence does become an issue as it makes the heli jumpy in the hover which can make landings difficult.

Up wind penetration is the next factor. Helis are pretty quick, I have flown 50s and 90s in 30+mph.

30s should cope with 20mph easily. Just be aware that if you go down wind it might take some time to get it back!

I used to have a huge fear of flying in the wind but after flying the hornet in some horrible conditions I'm now not so bothered by it and the larger the heli the more wind it can handle.

I did manage to find the limit for flying my big electric heli though, can't remmeber the exact windspeed but it was exceptionally high and gusty and i spent a good 2 minutes wrestling the MP into some sort of stable hover so i could land and go home knowing my limits
