  • First it goes, then it does'nt

    Hi All
    Appreciate your views......
Setting up my V2 at the field this morning and had a hard time to get it going all the time!!
Setting up the ESC. everything went well, all the bleeps in the right place, new motor, never started up in anger! took it out to the field and flew really well, stopped to put a bit of tape on the rotor to do the tracking---would not start, nothing, dead as a door knob!! discontected a few times it started once. pulled and tested all wires, new batteries fully charged, nothing, gyro was on solid red so that was ok. Disconnected wires from battery again, connected again--started??

Our Mr Heli at the field said cant fly until we have sorted it out.
General feeling is that its the motor or ESC, bought from Fast Lads a few months ago. Just got round to building it!!

    Would appreciated your views/help

Know this sounds silly but make sure the belt hasn't come of the back drive cog in the tail gear box, can jam it up and it won't start up, also a sign the belt is knackered.

worth a go, has happened to me a couple of times.
Check that one of your solder connections hasn't cracked on the esc might have a intermitten connection

Long time since I played with Align ESC's, but did you check your TX settings when you powered it up again, i.e. low throttle and trim set low etc.

Hi Jiber.....yes everything was checked and double checked everytime we had a go at starting.....it would have been better had it not started up and then it would have been a bit clearer!!

              Hi All
Just been out in the garden again, Took about three attempts to get it started, what with connecting and disconnecting, it spooled up to half stick then started stuttering a few times, stopped then it didnt start spooling up until stick was at halfway started off quiet slowly then burst into life, left it going, then it started stuttering again so disconnected everything and came indoors!! I am getting fed up now!!

Is it a AR6100? Seems there are some duff ones about.
Has it failed to go from cold? if so its not overheating/overloading.
I had that problem recently with mine, flew fine then landed and it wouldn't start again (in the air the cooling was helping, then it sort of tripped when it was standing - by hammering the collective I could get it to go into slow down and then stop).

I had a problem with mine going into fail safe in long wet grass at a range of 12yards yesterday. holding the tranny up high got it back.
Range testing with the button held down revealed the range was really poor with the heli in the longish damp grass, but same as normal if it was placed on a box.
I had also bent my undercart placing the heli lower than it had ever been before.

                  Hi Moyesboy
                  Thanks for ideas
                  Its not an AR6100
Started happening from cold. Our Mr Heli then flew it for a while to do the tracking. Couldnt get it started. Speed controller was not really hot.
What You suggested about the long wet grass could hold promise, it was long and damp at the field, my grass needs cutting as well!! Moonmanflyer suggested soldering failure so had a look, but soldering is ok, nice and solid. Just wondering if I shud just take the ESC/motor off and ask for replacements?? Fast lads are pretty good at that??

Check the DEANS connector for good connectivity (wiggle it about to see) and soldering on the wires.
Failing that it sounds like the ESC might be on its way out.

                      Hi machasm.
                      Tks
Had a look at all the connections and wiggling about, all seems good there. My mate at the field (our Mr heli) said that, think I will ring Fast lads, see wot they say.

Appreciate all the help everyone has given me.
