  • Heli-like model...

I'm hoping to build a servo-less heli-like model, using only electronic speed controls on 2 or more rotors.

I'm going to get the radio gear first so I can then get my control hardware (electronics) sorted. (I have posted in the wanted section.)

If anyone has any advice on suggested methods for controlling electric motors in relation to each other it will be much appreciated.

I have a few ideas on configuration so far, and so am very happy to hear of any similar attempts.

I know it's been done before, but I really want to do something unique, even if it's similar to other things, being handmade will be enough for me.

I'm hoping to use big rotors rather than those piddly little things.
I also don't want a tether, nor an indoor model.

(Hope I'm not coming across as rude - but I'm hoping to build something rather more grown up than the hoverfly)

no not rude at all, all i meant was look to the technology of the hoverfly and similar for your inspiration.

good luck and keep us informed

          good idea.

are there any other models like this?

(I know of X-UFO and Draganflyer already)

              looks quite cool.
a few too many moving parts for my design perhaps, but coaxial rotors is something I hadn't considered...

From reading the review on the site that one doesnt like wind too much. But I think that is down to the rather simple control system. The top set of blades are fixed pitch.

I know looking for a matching pair of small rotors (about 40cm diameter) which need to rotate opposite directions.

I also need appropriate motors and speed controls.

I'm thinking perhaps working from Heli-tail-rotors, or perhaps some twin-rotor 'plane.
