  • Fuel Filter to exoust?

Seen this image recently (dont like that heli tho) :

What is the point of having a filter placed on the pressurizing tube on its way to exoust pipe? Well i have a spare filter too but my question is what does it do and helps with, do any of you bother to place it there?

    Cheers,
    Sergey

Some say it is to stop crud getting into the tank & possibly from there into the carb line.

I had one fitted but took it off. The reasoning is that any crud getting into the tank will be diluted by fuel and less chance of it getting into the carb line - which must have a filter fitted at all times.

There is more likelyhood that crud may actually block the pressure line stopping pressure to the tank by blocking the filter - and the results could be more dramatic than a bit of crud getting into the tank.

I've have a filter from the fuel bottle to the main tank and a filter from the main tank main tank to the carb.

If the crud gets me, the heli gods meant it to be that way.

I have never used one on the exhuast in over 25 years of operating ic engines, and had zero probs from exhaust crud. I flew when castor straight was all you could get, and it didn't cause problems then.

              Interesting thread
I've run a sullivan crap trap on the back pressure pipe on my Trex600 from new - and I've had to clean it out once only. The secondary reason for doing this is down to the canopy cutting the back pressure pipe due to the nipple location (an issue that has been rectified with the later version Align 50 mufflers).

I am not currently running one on my Trex700, but that decision was more down to the back pressure fuel tube routing - there's not much gap between the back pressure nipple on the MP5 and the hoel in the frames into which the tube feeds - so I left it off.

As long as you double filter (filter when filling on your filling line somewhere, and filter to the carb from the tank) then you'll generally have no issues.

I just don't like seeing crud in my tank, which has happened before
              Cheers,
