Black Sea stand off USA vs Russia

Well isn't this becoming a cosy situation in the Black Sea between US and Russian vessels deployed there.

2008 has been a year from hell for me as it has with many I know, wouldn't it be the cherry on top to finish it with a jolly Ole Nuclear War!

And the missile interceptor base in Poland hasn't even been so much as cleared out for weapons deployment.

There's always something threating our normal lives, and I've always said it'll be over some **** pot country dispute.


Right or wrong it doesn't really matter in the end, what do you guy's think about this?

Well no real point in worrying about, as there is naff all we can do about it.....well unless you own a nuclear Bunker I can borrow

I'm sure Russia don't real want another cold war, yet alone a proper nuclear war, well we all hope anyway

Indeed, your quite right of course mate.

It's just a little chilling with two of the largest USAF Bases 25 miles from my doorstep.

It brings back memorys of the war preparation papers coming through our letter box as a kid in the 70's and up to around 1984, and the school five minute warning drills where we'd have to place all the tables together sit under and practice kissing our arse goodbye.

Personally i think it will blow over,but i dont have a problem with what Russia has done,they sent their troops into Georgia because of long standing issues,didnt we and America illegally invade Iraq?

we actually need a cold war again, after all it will make jobs, you need people to build planes and tanks. Personally I agree, what's wrong with what Russia has done really? We did it in Serbia after all? And let's face it, Serbia were looking out for their own people, till the 'God is Great ... Kaboom' brigade moved in. And who do we side with? Albanians, who if they wanted independance so badly should've gone back to Albania. Mark my words, it happens everywhere, it'll happen here one day.

I agree with all your comments, indeed NATO really hasn't a leg to stand on when we lead a full scale assault on Iraq, OK it may have been the right thing to do, however while Saddam was in power at least all the eggs were in one basket, and it could be easily monitored.

Now there's a vast power vacuum and splinter cells have grown beyond control.

Trouble is the Russian hard liners are gathering more support and power as they steadily build back there former military strength.

And of course the USA are drip feeding the situation further with the missile base plans in Poland

This is an interesting topical debate and it seems those who have written all feel the same.

I'm not critical about homeland security, terrorism has to be controlled by any force deemed fit, however the price is dear with the armed forces stretch to the limits while being severely under funded, the secret services are at breaking point stopping terror cells from inflicting more damage & death in our country as well as others.

It just seems all we hold dear is going down the pan quicker then anyone expected.

Plus the raise in taxes, we'll be billed for taking a dump next, and it stands to reason why everythings going up when it's costing us tens of millions a day keeping our armed forces active in the Middle East.

USA Wants to send Warships to the area fine but they want to remember who they ignored in the 1st place. With the Georgia and south Osetia thing.

Also USA Remember who's neck of the woods your in, this certianly isn't the middle east and who has the bigger toys to shoot at each other with well place your bets.

USA is Just sticking its nose in the wrong place yet again and Georgia wants to be gratefull its not now part of Russia because if they wanted it they would be there's by now.

Steady on chaps we all know the world is far from perfect as are the people who make the rules, I only brought this up from a Military stand point and how it could escalate.

Christ I agree with all the great comments made, if we ruled the world it would be a far safer RC heli flying Planet, but we don't, so lets leave the politics to the morons in charge and hope someone some where see's sense and holds out the Olive branch, it doesn't matter who, only that it happens.

Well im originally from Ukraine (born there) Still going there in the summer to see friends family. And as far as i know Ukraine gave Russia a deal during break up of USSR that they can keep their Ships in Black sea (let those nuclear things rust there ...sure) And up untill recently when had conflict with Georgia Ukraine said if they move their ships from where they are it aing going back. So i wouldnt warry much about going against US ( What a stupid plonkers lol ROFL... Going against Russia.... US - never) Just to compare Russian forces and American it wont happen guys well at least not in my generation and im 22
