  • This vent or this vent? Air cooling + looks

Ignore the green pen marks, bad cutting, terrible spare testing canopy and the open section under the nose. All of these will not be there when I do it on my proper canopy.

I repeat, this is a test canopy and a test!

    Which one looks better?

Which one would offer the best air flow for the inside while giving the least frontal air resistance?

    Thank you in advance!

The double cutout looks better but obviously the big single cut out is bound to give better cooling but also more wind resistance. Try cutting a smaller hole on top and a smaller hole underneath (look at the mini titan) i think that would give reasonable cooling with lesser wind resistance.

        Thanks Lee!

I kinda wanted to stay with this basic shape/position as it's right where the air flows well over the lipo and ESC/eBEC inside. There's also some nice grooves in the canopy above it.

I like the look of both, I can't put a finger on it. I won't say yet in case it effects posts after this .

Thanks once again mate! I think I'll leave it until I get a few more replies first. I'll go see what else I can carry on with. I can do the canopy any time .

        Edit:

Boggy, thanks! Can you explain a little more, I think I got you but don't totally have it pictured.

With plane cowls, the best way to ensure good cooling is to have a small(er) hole at the front, and a big(ger) hole at the back.

The aero-dynamics of this setup draws air through the cowling by sucking it through from behind during forward flight.

Works well - apply the same logic to your heli.

But let's face it - it ain't gonna do nowt while in the hovver.

The twin holes look the best. If the holes are too big thus letting in loads of air, if it cant escape you could risk the canopy ballooning and popping off in mid flight and that aint good!

Boggy, that looks better - I prefer the look of the two cuts and agree that rounding them out would look much better.

                        Go for it!

Haha, you guys are great . Don't suppose you've seen the back of a canopy, massive hole . .

I'm not really after looks as much as the function. Seems like everyone loves the first pic, I was actually leaning towards the second, it looks more like a intake in person. The back is higher up (kinda like a bonnet scoop).

                            Edit:

It's a Dragonus 450 canopy. My normal one looks tons better. I used to fly with this one until a lockout broke the canopy mounts wide open.

I was inspired by another forum member, it's from a "NACA" intake.
