  • Looking to buy...

    Hey all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking to buy a quite cheap electric helicopter for under 140, any recommendations?

PS: The price includes postage and packing fee too!

    Regards Theo Black

      Hi Theo
Dave is right. Don't waste your money. I take it this is 140-00 including a radio?

Yeah including a radio, 100% set up, I've seen quite a few, for example the DragonFly, HoneyBee 2 and the HummingBird but what one do I go for as I'm new to to this hobby!

          Stuff,

If your after this as a first heli to learn with I personally would advise you against buying a small electric, far better to save your money and get a .30 IC machine, they are much more friendly to beginners being far more stable and you arn't worrying constantly about flight times with regard to batteries.

I really doubt you will get decent setup for 140 quid, I have just built an X400 and have ended up spending over 350 to get it flying well and this isn't including the radio which I already had for my raptor.

          Just my 2p worth.
          Velocity 50
          Synergy N5
          Fury 55 FBL
          Trex 700

Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak....

I've heard good reviews and I have a lot of time, I'm doing PPL training so it can't be as hard as that lol!

              Counter Rotating

If you do want to buy a Micro like a HummingBird, then look out for the new batch of counter rotating blade (like the Hirobo XRB) types, I think J.P. and Graupner have just introduced them for about 150 quid, they are ment to be easyier to fly, and more stable. I also think that the Dragonfly 5 is of this type from Hong Kong but be careful about Far East imports. Learning to fly any heli is difficult, Micros are just a bit more twitchy, however much cheaper and more crash resistant. It is possiable to learn to fly with one, I did, and that still hasn't stop me wrecking my shuttle on a number of occasions!!!! Have a look at this.....

-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

              And a DX8 too

Surely the DragonFly is a good challenging heli?

                  I've got one...

                  Hi there.

I bought a Fixed Pitch Sabre electric helicopter from my local model shop for 119.99 and it has helped me get into the hobby.

The shop is e-rc bristol www.e-rc.co.uk

Although the model is quite limited it can teach you the basics of flying and the spares are not too expensive if you ever have a ding!

                  hope this helps!

Regarding rcscale.co.uk - DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE.

I'm currently stuck in replacement parts hell when my new kit showed problems on initial setup (sticking servo - prob tooth missing; motor caught fire!!!). Nor returns address, you have to agree to their Ts & Cs before they'll issue it. Cost of postage will probably end up exceeding cost of UK parts. I first reported the fault on Dec 26th, not Jan 8th and still no further forward. SITE IS A RIP-OFF.

PPL is simple compared to learning to fly an RC Heli
