I had an early N95 and apart from the camera and video side of it I hated it, I found the Sat Nav poor to crap often tried to take me on a wild goose chase!

Not sure how much better the new ones are but the early ones were pretty crap build quality as well. I got shot of mine after 4 months and the slide was getting really sloppy, colour was wearing off all over the phone and I was dubious how good the drop resistance would be...

i have a standard N95 and love it, depening of course if you dont mind a shocking battery life (i dont, i have a charger always at home and one always at work, never with a flat battery), and i love all the gagets i can install, basically its the best phone i could ever want, apart from an iPhone, but thats off topic.

It is a great phone, and i think the 8GB is even better!!

the best downloads for it is Opera mini, a far better internet browser

Not heard of that one before. Is it Nitro or Electric?

You get full google map mapping and route finding for free on the phone.

Voice guidence add about £6 a month to your fonebill for this service. its actually as good if not better than tomtom, the phone will auto update maps too, so get an unlimited data plan!

I've had my N95 for over 12 months now and it's not bad, battery life isn't good but it lives on a charger in the car and I have two batteries, one stays at home on the desktop charger and I swap the batteries over every morning.

As has been said the camera is good, if thats what you want but I bought mine mainly for we browsing and for using with my laptop as a data modem. Actually using it for web browsing isn't bad but you need good eyesight

It works pretty well as a data modem using hsdpa with my laptop but I bought a 3 usb modem a few moths ago so use it less and less.

My wife had one of the original iphones a few months ago and recently updated to the new 3G iphone and this is by far the best phone for web browsing and is pretty good for email and syncing with Outlook so I've just signed up for one myself

If I may drift off topic for a moment.

                  Steve.

How different is the 3 network usb modem compared to linking the N95 to the laptop speed/connection etc.

I have just got T-Mobiles equivalent usb modem and think its fantastic for being on the move with ADSL for £15 a month.

There seems to be better coverage on the T-Mobile HSDPA network, I can get a fast connection most times out at our flying field in the middle of nowhere. The 3 modem is probably faster if you can get an HSDPA connection, unfortunately it's very patchy at the moment. I've had a couple of small outages on my broadband connection recently and can get a strong high speed connection with the 3 modem, basic web browsing isn't much slower than my 20mb broadband.

The downside with HSDPA connections is that the upload speed is very slow and ping times are high so not good for peer to peer file sharing and online games.
