A long time ago now Jim Morley, the designer of Morley helicopters, built a model Fairey Rotordyne I think it was which had two tail rotors mounted one on either side of the fuselage and the upper main rotor for lift.
If I find photos l post them, but this was a one off own design build that did eventually fly after some initial teething troubles.
Back then of course there was no other electronic stability aids other than tail gyros.
