  • New (?) Tail gears for the Trex 700/800s

    Hi guys,

    Was having a look on the (internet) stores for any new goodies. I saw these;

    https://www.align-trex.co.uk/helicop...e1g005xxt.html

Basically new front and rear gear sets for the 700 and 800s.

Only thing i noticed that stood out was the fact that the front gear is a 19T as opposed to the 22/23 normally seen. It has to be used with the newer style 102T auto rotation gear (
    H70G012XXT)

Doesnt that mean a rather excessive tail speed?

Would like to use these new fancy high durability gears but that's a bit of a change from what i currently have installed of 104T/22

Or am i just being dense?

Hope you are all staying safe

Well, it looks like a larger modulus, 1.25 vs 1.0. If both umbrella gears are the same then even if they are less teeth, it won't change the ratio - the ratio will be determined by the auto gear and the gear that is driven by it.

I have the highest tail ratio I could get (5 to 1) as I'm running low headspeeds.

Have the umbrella gears been known to fail ? I had not heard anything.

      Cheers Trillian,

Yeah the umbrellas seem to have larger teeth but i was more meaning the fact that they are to be used with the 102T Auto rotation gear and that would connect with the 19T linked above, giving a ratio of 5.368? Which seems like a fast tail.

So in fairness it may be useful to you if it is indeed the case as it would jack up your tail speed.

I think its a durability thing, but i do like to tinker and upgrade even if its slightly pointless

The front drive gear on that one is 23 tooth mod 1. Only the umbrella gears are 19T 1.25.

I'm pretty sure what I have now is a 105 / 20 tooth. (don't know what the umbrella gears are, I think those stay the same among the various front drive gear options)

Ohh thats right! I cant read, cheers for that!

Not sure 23T would be much use in my 800 with lowish HS. But i do like the blueness. hmmm

This is the first I have heard about them, so right now I only see the one with the 23 tooth front drive gear. I assume that's the most popular. But maybe they'll also do them for the other gear options. I suppose there's a way to change out the drive gear if you really want to .

I'm running my 800 at about 1300 headspeed with 115 tails, which appeared to work well. But I didn't get much stick time with it last year before the winter set in.
