  • All new Align T-rex 650X Dominator

Found this on Align's FB page:

It looks like a slightly shrunken 700X. Hard to tell for certain with Align's record on naming conventions but I'm assuming it takes up to 650mm blades, so close to the 700X in size. 6S or 12S power. Looks like they kept the TT drive tail, hopefully beefed up from the old 600.

Interesting that they're saying F3C as well as 3D and the option of running on 6s. You'd need some very punchy 6s packs or run low headspeeds.

Either no motor (and possibly ESC) with the combo, or multiple combos.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

6s would be interesting, a decent size 6s heli is a nice idea

I'd guess they will offer the Super Combo with two alternative motor options. A high Kv for 6S and low Kv for 12S.

Align have done this before. They had both 3S and 6S versions of their 450L available with different Kv motors in each kit. If they follow the 450L example the the blade sizes might be a little different too, 600mm blades on the 6S and 650mm on the 12S maybe?

No canopy pics yet. I'd assume XN style as they're no doubt cheaper to paint than the older airbrushed style.

6s is just about ok on a 550 let alone a 650. Will melt everything.

It's not about blade size, it's about weight. For example, the Henseleit TDF was designed for 6S and flies great on that size pack, it's a full size 700. The even lighter TDSF is also a 700 and flies on 5S... both can do 'hard 3D' no problems.

Having said that, I dont see this new 650 being super light so you might have a point.

Headspeed is more important than weight, 6s 700s etc are flying much lower headspeeds, being light just stops it flying like a pig. Its not a lightly built heli from those photos.

But it's light weight that enables low headspeed to be used, while maintaining good performance. You said it yourself, low headspeed on a heavy heli means it flies like a pig and I'm sure most people dont want their helis to fly like pigs.

Putting aside cell count, flying characteristics, type of drivetrain, whether its summer or winter, etc etc etc headspeed has an exponential effect on power draw much much more than weight does. Will leave it there wont derail the thread anymore. Just don't think a 6s 650 Is a good idea unless you are a gentle sports flyer.
