So i am thinking about buying a 600XN, i haven't heard much about them.
Can anyone offer me any advice on these models? is there a problem with the clutch liner over heating?
How do they compare to the Synergy 556 and other models in it's class?

    Cheers,
    Dan.

I have build one to go with my Trex 600N DFC, unfortunately I have not had chance to fly it due to loss of field. Other club I fly at Heli’s are not welcome. But it went together really well, as all my other Trex’s have. Hope to get chance soon, will post if I have update.

The 556 flys really nice. But the problem is getting parts for it in the uk common parts are always out of stock. And shipping from USA is a bit pricey. So I won’t get another one. Trex parts are available every where👍

I really hope that Align can keep on suppling Helis and spares for a while.

          Hi Brian,

Thank you for your input, i am pretty much of the same opinion.
I attended a fun fly at the weekend and spoke to a chap who owns a 600 XN, he showed me around the model, i was very impressed with it!
There is a slight issue with the clutch but its easily fixed.
So, it looks likey the 600 XN will be my next heli as a lot of the parts, boom head and tail are shared with the 550x which i already have.

          Thanks,
          Dan.

I'm not sure about the clutch liner but Align have a metal gearbox upgrade to prevent the idler bearings melting the standard plastic gearbox. This gearbox would put me off the heli a bit to be honest as the gears need regular lubrication and are just more parts to wear and need replacing and at the end of the day it just seems unnecessary to have the gearbox. But I dont own one so maybe in practice it's not such a big deal.

Thanks Grumpy, yes tha'ts exactly what the chap had done to his, i don't like the idea of spraying grease in to the gears either but it works.
The other alternative is to change the clutch bell & liner, i think 'flight Test' supply this as an upgrade.

Anyway, i have bought myself a little Gaui NX4 in the meantime.

              Cheers,
              Dan.

Was it you talking to James Platts at North Notts then Sunday? I over heard him saying something about swapping the tail between his 550 and 600 which makes me think that.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

                  Hey,

Yes that was me, also doing the dodgy flying at the end of the field with the Trex 550!
What were you flying? did i talk to you on Sunday?

                  Cheers,

We didn't meet properly. Maybe we said hello in passing. I later found out (through Facebook) that the guy you were with is Rob Maplethorpe. Had I known it was him I'd have come over because I see his posts on facebook all the time.

I did fly my Goblin Thunder Sport for just one flight when I could get the whole flight line to myself, but you might have gone by then. It was late afternoon. Definitely past 3PM. I can't remember if the van was at the end of the field or not while I was flying. Anyway, it was the only heli of it's type there, that I saw, so if you saw it flying, it was me. I was shaking badly so it was quite repetitive and nothing spectacular.
I was going to fly my Specter too, but got carried away troubleshooting Andy's Specter with a bunch of other people and ran out of time.

I meant to grab a video of RichardV flying his Oxy, but I forgot to do that too. I can honestly say I've never seen such a small heli do so much stuff.

Yes that's Rob, we've flown together for years, i took a year out from the hobby and have been back flying a few months now, he has made a lot of progress!
That was the first fun fly i have ever attended, i will certainly go to more, my thumbs were shaking for a good few flights but settled in eventually.
They all seem a nice bunch at North Notts.

RichardV came over to explain piro loops to us, he is very technical and how he manages to be so precise with such a small heli is beyond me!

I think i saw you fly, did you have a camera on your hat?

                      Cheers,
                      Dan.

Yep, that was me. I try to film all my flights. Just in case I either crash, or do something cool.

There's nothing worse than crashing and having no idea what happened.

I don't get to many events, but I've been going to North Nott's in September since it was a proper fun fly in 2009 (helis only, advertised everywhere, big raffle etc). It's only about 45 minutes from me, and my own field is half an hour, so no big deal.

Good idea that, do you get some good footage? i tried it with the GoPro but the heli always seems too far away.

It's good enough. I use an old Mobius cam with a slightly narrower than stock angle lens (supposedly about 60 degrees). If I flew as close to myself as the pros do, it would be excellent, but I don't trust myself or the heli enough to do that. Here's some sample footage from earlier this year. While the heli is small most of the time, it's easy to tell what it's doing unless I'm way up high which is where I try new stuff.

I know I've seen good GoPro footage from head cams, but I think you need to put it in the narrowest mode, which I think just records the centre of the sensor. Not only that, I think that mode was only available on the higher end models back in the day of the GoPro 3 and 4 (silver and black edition). No idea on the current situation.
