Inspired by Trillian’s efforts and superb looking version I’m going to design a 12s 700 following on from this design and utilising the TDR canopy.

Reduce the frame height, shrink the skids and tweak the front of the frames.

I’ve flown the 800 on 717’s and it rocks so time to make a dedicated version.

Hope to have an 800, 700 & 700UL.

At some point I might try slightly smaller blades. I have a pair of the NHP Diabolo versions, I think they are 742mm. I didn't get much time with the 780s, unfortunately, but it was all working really well together. ----correction--- the blades I had originally were the old style Align 800s, I guess I never measured them and the chord was so wide it's an optical illusion.

I flew at approx just under 1300 according to Mr Mel's, which is 54% on the Jive, so with a bit smaller blades I could bump the headspeed up just a bit.

Tweaked the 800 down to a 700. Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have a flying version.

My 700 frames are now cut so when I have a little
time I’ll be bolting it together.

Idle morning yesterday so reworked the nitro to be all carbon and do away with the plastic radio tray. Also extended the front, adjustable battery tray, capacity bank tray and some other small tweaks. That’s one I’ll put together for some winter flying. It’s not better than the last just different.

Assembled my latest E frame set today. Very pleased fit is perfect. Should be ready to fly soon :-)

Part of the inspiration for the 'TDRex 800'

Today I decided to get some pics of the new 800 alongside the Suzi Laos. The Suzi Laos canopy is a custom one-off, as were the main and auto gears that came with it. I replaced the gears with Rave ENV gears to preserve the originals.

You can see that the Suzi Laos canopy is a bit taller and slightly different shape but the length is about the same.

Originally the Suzi Laos was intended for a more traditional layout of the ESC and Lipos, where the ESC would sit on the tray in front of the motor and the Lipos would go underneath. The problem I found was that unless I used the heaviest 5000mah packs it was ending up tail heavy. So that is the reason for the ESC now sitting on a mount up above the tray - this way I can have one battery on top and one underneath and I can get it balance properly using even my lightest 4000mah packs.

The TDRex was designed from the start to avoid being tail heavy and the one-up-one-down layout allows it to balance even with 3300mah packs.

That’s the trio finished, 800, 700 12s, 700 6s. All very different flight styles. The 700 12s is ludicrously powerful and responsive. The lack of weight, rigidity and weight distribution for me is bang on. Been fun doing these but electric wise that’s me covered more than happy. Nitro next and hopefully a lot of flying.

Amazing stuff and well done.
I consider yours to be more than modding as it is akin to research and development. I have done some modding such as changing landing gear or canopies and more serious stuff like converting from wet fuel to battery but I always used kit developed by others so making from scratch is another world.
