Please excuse my ramblings, but I’ve had a nice day flying in the damp.
So I used to play a game when we had the big three and got a little bored. Wanting to order a couple of spares, I might look at the three sites and place the same parts in my basket for each site. I would then try and order simultaneously from the two cheapest sites, with the view to seeing who had the quickest delivery. Unfortunately, the postie would often spoil my fun by delivering both parcels strapped together.
We are now down to two shops, and I have two helis almost the same size that share a lot of parts. So the bigger one had a boom strike a couple of weeks back, and I only started putting it back together last weekend. Hadn’t spotted that the feathering shaft was a little bent, so looked on both sites who had the shaft, but one didn’t have a landing skid. Ordered the parts last Thursday night, and they were delivered Saturday sometime.
Out flying Saturday with the smaller heli, and a power loss close to the ground meant I needed another feathering shaft. Would have ordered two the first time around, but the first shop only had one in stock. Did my usual looking at both shops, but the first shop was still out of stock. Ordered from the second shop - only one in stock - expecting a delivery Tuesday or Wednesday. Friday’s weather forecast was looking good, so keen to take both helis out with me but no feathering shaft.
Rang the shop Thursday to enquire about the missing feathering shaft, very polite and asked me to wait until Monday in case it had been delayed by Royal Mail. No worries, but they didn’t have a second shaft I could purchase. Checked on the web, and the first shop now had a feathering shaft back in stock, so I ordered it.
Got home from flying this evening - fantastic day with good friends - and guess what? Both feathering shafts sitting on the doormat. Royal Mail strikes again.
Not mentioning names, as I appreciate the service these shops provide. One shop gets a delivery to me twice by the next day, while the other shop takes four days. I do question why only one part is shown in stock at a time, but worry that we might be seeing one shop rising above the other, if Royal Mail and blind luck are to be believed
