My 2000w Kipor generator went up in flames while at the field destroying it beyond repair a couple of weeks ago.I am thinking of replacing it with a smaller 1000w Jenny,I use mainly 5000mah 6s packs and was wondering how many packs I would be able to charge at once and at what C rate.Current charge setup is Pl8 and 1200w power supply.

Most 1Kw generators will put out around 750/800W maximum continuously, at 25V (for 6S batteries) that works out at 30Amps.

At 5Amps per battery that gives you six packs at 1C or 3 at 2C. In reality it might be a little less depending on the losses in your PSU/Charger and just how good your generator is.

Dave, I have the clarke 1000w genny which i use to run my Coolice PSU and PL6 charger. When charging 6s batteries i can get 4 of them on at a go with a charge rate of 18amps before the genny starts to get unhappy.
Its a cheap generator but has served me well

As above, I can only churn out about 18A @ 24V DC before my 1000w Kipor starts to struggle.

Thanks for all the advice,I think I can get by with a smaller Jenny even if it means only charging a couple of packs at a time.People always seem to say stay clear of the cheaper generators Andy,but it seems you have had good success with yours.I think I mite buy new and give a cheap one a go this time.
