  • Which solder is best

As title .. what’s the best solder to use on my Heli electrics ?

ive just bought a decent soldering iron as the cheaply one I had gave up lol !

And not not being very electronically minded just wondered what was best to use as some are lead free, have tin , or have silver in /don’t have it in its all a bit of a minefield lol .. many thanks in advance

Good quality 63/37 solder is what you want.

I'm using Warton Metals Autosol RA, and I'm very happy with it.

It's eutectic, so it goes right from liquid to solid instantly at a certain temperature, with no plastic phase where it's sort of in between. Thus, it's almost impossible to get a cold joint.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

I had cold solder on a deans connector on my first Trex 450. Went back to the more forgiving bullets. My soldering is better these days though.
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

Same stuff as mine, right down to the diameter. Mine just has a different supplier printed down the bottom.

It's a no clean solder too by the way, so you don't have to clean the flux residue if you don't want. It won't corrode anything.

My soldering iron looks like that. I had to get some rubber feet to stop it slipping around as the unit had hard plastic ones.

Use 60% tin, 40% lead. I use Silverline from Screw Fix. Melts very quick and goes solid equally quick. But whatever you use, get one with lead as they are much better for what we are doing. I also use a 40 Watt iron which works very well. Cheers.
