  • Maj - anyone in contact with him?

    Hi,

Is maj still around here? Would like to contact him but not getting any reply on the mobile or email addresses that I have for him. Don't seem able to find him using the search function either.

I spoke to him late last year, around October ish. I think he was taking a bit of a break from the hobby.

Michael is having a break from the hobby and has other projects on the go at the moment so helis are not at all on his radar right now but knowing him as I do I’d say hell just buy a shed load of stuff over night and get the buzz again! :-)

Good work!!! I had a Mk 4 Shitfire when I was a student, worked all summer on a farm and blew my earnings on a 12 year old one - happy days

That's excellent. Please keep us informed as to progress. I may be teaching you to suck eggs but watch out for the rear suspension!

I bet they were happy days :-)

On the subject of suspension it’s not quite stock.

The front has Gaz ride height adjustable and dampening along with lowered uprated 300lb springs. Also I have fitted a trunnionless conversion and a camber adjustable one piece upper wishbone similar to Lotus. Allows tweaking without having to shim the lower wishbones.

The rear suspension is the later 1500 style but again tweaked. Gaz adjustable and a race negative camber leaf spring. Similar to if you fitted a block below the leaf spring. When the body is on, fuel tank and laidened up it should be about 1-2 degrees negative camber. This should prevent tuck under heavy braking or cornering and actually put more rubber down.

That looks tremendous. You seem to be doing a very thorough job. I was just a bit worried because that swinging arm rear suspension could tuck in a bit viciously. I remember a friend of mine putting one in the ditch in about 1967. The shortened spring mod certainly improves matters considerably.

PS. How about doing a build thread on here in "off the topic". I for one would watch it avidly.

Seeing as you're not keeping it standard, would you not consider putting a better engine and box in it?
