  • Sullivan starter shaft

    Hi Guys,
Does anybody know where I can get a replacement Shaft with 6mm Hex Ball for S613 Helicopter starter. I can only find the complete starter unit (this is the red one) but it retails at over £100. All I need is the shaft itself as mine has now rounded off.
    Thanks
    Dave

Could you not buy a half decent long shaft 6mm Allen key with or with out ball on the end of it? I know the Sullivan shaft is a rod with a ball on the end but do you know any one that could turn the top end down for you so it will sit in the holder??

The problem is, the end that goes into the holder is a larger diameter than the rest of the shaft and also it is a precision ground diameter which fits into the one way bearing. I have a lathe myself and since my original post I have ordered a good quality 6mm ball end allen key. I'm going to part it off and use a tap to create an internal thread on one piece and a die to put an external thread on the other. Hopefully this should work, but ideally I would like to use the correct Sullivan shaft. Thank you for our reply.

i have never had a problem (past 5 years) running a solid shaft through my dynatron, all the helis I have had have a one way in the clutch - engines I've used OS, 36,50,55,90,105, all the long term flyers I know have one way bearing starter shafts, but I've yet to meet a heli that needs it and for the cost £6 vs £100 I know where I wold prefer to send my savings

The whole unit including the clutch is listed on the Sullivan Products in the USA website and is megger bucks.

Just the shaft doesn’t seem to be there now but I have had two from them over the years after dropping an email to their customer service department.
One I didn’t even pay for as they replaced it free of charge after admitting that a batch had been made of too soft a material.
I just sent them over some photos of the rounded off end of the shaft with the message.

I have the same starter, I also had the same problem, Sullivan wouldn't even talk (email back ) to me so I got a Pal with a Lathe to turn me up a small aluminium adapter to fit a the Imperial shaft one end and an Align shaft the other, I then cut the 'old' shaft and fitted an Align shaft, this has worked for years.

              Good idea!
Im in the same boat, although I don't have a lathe, best I could do is weld one to another, but I know I would never get it aligned properly. So it is an expensive piece of junk now.
