  • Portable Helipad?

Has anyone used one of these?
I thought it would be a good idea for the park where the grass can get a bit long.

Never used (or seen) one, I'd be worried about it blowing around in the down draft and perhaps causing problems but I see it comes with tent pegs so you can nail it down. Good to practice spot landings with though and I have found it was good to have a marker on the ground to hover over and gauge how much I drift about

It's just made of fabric so I'm guessing that it's not going to be ideal for helis as it wont provide a firm/level surface unless the surface below it is also firm and level, in which case you wouldn't need a pad anyway.. A piece of rigid plastic or hardboard would probably be better.

It's a bit of a walk from the carpark otherwise i would make a nice plywood one.
Or i could bring some shears with me!

Good idea. It is only one metre across so it will sharpen up your cyclic skills landing on it. Make sure it doesn't get loose. A landing pad needs to be rigid, see this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbk5Gr633B4

I mostly fly close to where I park and keep three pieces of plywood under the helis in the back of the car.

The small pad for 450 and indoor flying

The two larger pads, that together work well for 550-700

The small pad is 72 x 72 cm (28" x 28") and the larger pads are 120 x 80 cm (47" x 32"). Put together the larger pads gives me 120 x 160 cm (47" x 63"). Indoor I mostly fly on artificial turf, so both the turf and the TT tails needs protection.

This is what I use but it's permanently left in the ground and the mower glides over it,now am not saying you should go and steal 1tho

                    That's a lovely flying spot!
I think i would get in trouble if i left a sign in the grass in my park though.

I used to throw down one of my car rubber foot mats, heavy enough not to get blown around and firm enough to land on even when propped up by long grass

What's the yellow piece on the landing skids for?

I'd assume a visual aid to help with orientation.
