I think they have it worded where it's just a matter of the test must be done outdoors, so in theory any heli can be used so long as the examiner is OK with it (and obviously, no self leveling). It's all hovering so how precisely can you hover with it? When I did my A many years ago I wanted to use the biggest heli I had at the time because it was the one I could hover fairly steady (but how precise also depends on the examiner, it's not supposed to be F3C, just mainly about safety and being in control).

Well said Trillian. It has nothing to do about how precise you fly it so don't beat yourself up on it being immaculate. By all means yes you have to show some degree of positioning but it doesnt have to be perfect height all the time. All we look for is that you are not going to hurt anyone in the way you prepare the model or the way you fly and that you are able to demonstrate that you are in full control of the heli throughout the moves.
Having recently taken my A test I used my largest model a Synergy N5C for exactly the reason Trillian said! I felt it gave the greatest stability in the slight breeze and flies in a very positive way i.e. The examiner could clearly see my inputs in controlling the model and the response. Having said that on the same day another clubmate used his trusty flybarred Trex 450 and achieved exactly the same result. (We both passed).

My B was completed with my Hirobo Sceadu 50
all complete with flybars
I blew the engine up on my Raptor 90 practicing for the helicopter examiners, but the engine parts have arrived so its on with the re-build and more practice
my A & B in multirotor was taken with an Emax Nighthawk 250

I had done most of my practising with the Sceadu evo 50 and then decided to take the test with the Robbe Futura and would have had better height control if I had stuck with the Sceadu as I had the throttle and pitch curves more dailed-in.

I may even charge the Sceadu up and continue the practicing with it
but I'm tempted to use the Freya instead of the Raptor
