  • How many watts do i need?

    I want to charge 12 x 6s 5000s on my 2 x PL8s, I believe the chargers are rated at 1000w each. I have a 2400w psu. What kw geny would I need to power it all? Would 2.6kw be enough?

    Depends on how efficient the PSU is but looks a reasonable choice to get 40a out of each charger. You'll be operating the geny at full load. My 1000/900 cont runs maxed out at 30a but seems happy at that just chugging away. 3000/2600 cont should be fine.

        It's worth buying something like this:

        https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...s=energy+meter

        then when you run your setup from home, this will tell you how many watts u r pulling from the wall. Then you can see what generator size u need

        I have just gone thru this exercise myself. I found a difference between what I thought and was actually happening. Like what's been said is efficiency. But with this meter you get a direct read out.

        Just going ring a little further, depending on your application, I found it more cost effective to have fewer packs and charge more often. I have 5 pairs of packs for my 600. As soon as three are spent I put them on charge. The. Use the other two. Then when the three are done I fly those while the other two are charging. And so on.

        Sure re it's more cycles on the packs, but you can get away with a smaller (cheaper) generator etc. i can charge those three sets (6x 6s 3.3) in 20 mins.

        I run a eu20i that's rated for 1600w

          I have made a little spreadsheet that gives estimated values. It's not exact but it works for me within 100w on the meter.

          Charging all 12 5000w 6s packs at:

          1c = 1662w at the wall
          1.5c = 2418w
          2c = 3174w
          2.5c = 3930w
          3c = 4686w

          my spreadsheet for rough guidance.

          If if you message me I can send it over

            Don't forget to also buy a set of sack trucks to move a Hyundai 2kv or higher as they weigh a ton, especially the auto start one's

                  If your chargers take 24v go that way as it makes one hell of a difference to what power they need
                  I have 2 X Hyperion 0720I Duo built in to a case powered by 2 psu`s and I stick a 3rd in the side so that's 3 chargers with 6x 6s 5000 packs at 1c and its pulling only 32amps yet when I did the same and it was just a 12v power supply it was drawing close to 50 amps as the inverters in the chargers were working way harder
                  I have had 4 chargers doing 8 packs and been less than 45amps in total
                  dread to think what that lot would all be on just a 12v
                  I have a Honda 2kv and it dose the job just fine
                  at the club we have a 2.6 kv kipor
                  I fly all day a mix of fixed wing and heli
                  both use 2x 6s 5000 packs
                  one an EF Edge with a Hacker Q80 and a Trex 700 and I get the same flight times and haven't had a time when I could not fly because I was waiting for packs
                  have 4 for the 700 and 6 packs for the Edge
                  but you really should go 24v if your chargers will allow
