  • Which on-board glowplug igniter for a 700n

Can anyone recommend a good on-board glowplug igniter which I can use on a 700n that will work from a 2s Lipo.

I was looking at the Gryphon Auto Booster Remote Operated Glow Igniter GAB-5500 but it appears to be out of stock everywhere I have looked.

I use the GAB 5500 on both my nitros. I like the way I can switch it from the transmitter and don't have the button timing out on me. Stock is rubbish atm as you've found

The remote gryphon you just can't buy anymore (unless used). I've gone over to switchglo pro as recommended to me by a fellow RChA.

Does a nitro heli need a glow which will kick in at low throttle, if its being flown in IU?

Is it just for the ease of not having to remove the canopy each time?

I can't seem to find many remote glows in the uk.

It's not a necessarily at all it's a convenience. Nothing worse than carrying your model out with the canopy on and it quits to walk back take the canopy off and try again. Sometimes when running an engine in is good to be able to apply heat if it's still pig rich and about to quit. Once an engine is tuned right you really shouldn't need to give it remote heat again. Some apply it at low throttle in auto's. Some can prevent a hot start so starting at full throttle and killing the clutch and liner. If you have more than a set amount of throttle it won't apply heat so you can't start it. Audio alarms and dead plug alarm all good things.

Not needed but nice to have. I ordered mine from the US, UK has very little at the moment.

2 thoughts 1 is you can get lucky slips straight through, Other is you will pay 20% import duty plus a handling fee around £12. I took the view shipping is discounted to $10 so saved about $25 on that prob cover most fees it required. Price to pay for convenience! I have started on just a sub c and a piece of wire before.

You can always use a remote glow which puts a glow plug outside the canopy area and a glow driver/stick. That works well.

As above I've used a single cell NiCad and RCA socket mounted on a small bracket next to the engine for years, leave it connected while you go to the patch in the Winter if stalling, cheap and bomb proof.

I emailed Gryphon directly yesterday as I couldn't find one anywhere , they are $39 USD each (£31.10 approx) and they will ship to me directly . They have asked for quantities so please feel free and Ill order some . Don't know what the delivery postage is but I don't think it will be much if I buy 6 of so . This is GAB-3300 mini remote glow .
