  • Gryphon heli-extreme drinks batteries

    Hi all,

Running a gryphon heli extreme regulator on my synergy n5c. Just seems to drain the receiver battery in no time. A fully charged 3300mah battery will return from an 8 minute flight and be half empty. Other members of my club agree that this seems excessive.

Has anyone else experienced excessive battery drain using this system. I have 2 exact same batteries and the results are the same for both so it is unlikely to be a battery issue. Although this was suggested.

Can anybody recommend a different regulator I could try. Somebody else suggested just running the system directly off the 2s lipo. However, my servos aren't hv so I'm reluctant to try this.

    Cheers

    Jon

I run these Regulators and have never had a problem like that. I have one on my N7 with a 3800mah Thunderpower pack and that lasts ages.
Should be flying it at the weekend so will check what it uses each flight

Hi Jon, that seems excessive! I use the same regulator on my N5C and Typically I use 1300mah dynamic LiPos and manage 3 or 4 light flights of about 5mins only using about 35 or 40%!

That's what I thought. Running, MKS servos on cyclic and tail. Ar7210bx for fbl. Also have an onboard glow driver. Other than that can't think what else could be draining power so rapidly. The regulator was second hand so maybe I've just been unlucky and brought a dodgy one.

Does sound excessive drain. I'd try another reg, but I did have a similar issue on another model and that was servo drain. It may sound odd,and I may be on the wrong line, but I'd also check the earth on the glow driver, or disconnect it just to rule it out.

+1 to the above ran one on my 700n and got 4 - (risky 5) flights from a 2s 3300, now Ive gone HV I get 6- (risky 7) with no reg just plug the pack direct to the RX.

Could your onboard glow not be swithing off and is running through out the flight?

Possibly. The battery doesn't seem to run down when I'm just setting up on the bench, only when the engine is running. Perhaps the vibration is triggering a loose wire somewhere. I'm going to try unplugging the glow driver from the receiver and power it with an external battery. I'll see whether that improves it.
