  • 3 Blade Helis, Opinions tips or setups?

    Hi all,

I am starting to venture into the world of 3 blade and its all pretty new to me, I'm curious as to what other people think about them?

Do you prefer the feel of 3 blade to 2 blade?
What did you notice in comparison to a 2 blade setup?
Is there any tips or tricks when setting the models up electrical or mechanical?

    What's your opinion?

Personally I do like the feel of the 3 blade on my x3l, So will be converting one of the x7's soon, To me it makes the model feel very smooth and seems to pull manoeuvres of with no hesitation and is very stable

    Food for thought that's all

I really like them. I have two 3 blade helis now and I am very happy with the way they fly. It's a bit different and variety is nice. I don't have any desire to convert all of them to 3 blades. Both of mine have totally rigid heads, so I think that's bound to be part of the reason they have such a 'crisp' feel. The FBL setup is not really different. I run them at lower headspeeds but that's actually what started me running my 2 blade helis at lower headspeeds as well.

Why? Give a couple of reasons. How does it feel? What adjustments did you make over a two blade setup? Share the knowledge.

We had a very detailed thread about three blade helis a while back (longer ago than I thought). It can be found here: http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-d...ade-heads.html

OP asked for any tips or tricks in setting the model up. Al flys with an insane headspeed and his flying is extreme. Interested to hear his setup.

i was waiting for that! did not have to wait long haha.

i must say i really like my KSE. So far i am loving flying it. I would say its certainly no worse. It flys better than my other helis. But it has a far more advanced FBL controller / servos than my other helis. I also presume the HPS head is better.

What i need is to fly the same heli back to back with 2 and 3 bladed heads. Like a 570 standard and a 570 KSE.

                  but the kse flies great!

Shame now kyle has left sab the KSE will likely be discontinued!
Id be interested to fly a 700 KSE back to back with my 2 blade carbon comp for a propper comparison.
Almost as much as id like to try another 2 blade 700 with one of those vbar things on people seem to rave so much about

Dan vbar is good il happily put one on a model for you to fall in love with

Does seem there is a lot of preference with 3 blade as I have yet to hear any complaints about them. I will give a detailed review soon when my x7 3 blade setup arrives as I have 2 with identical setups so will be able to do a reliable comparison between the both. What blades are people running out of curiosity as I csn only find sab zeal and align that do 3 blade sets

That's actually the only downside really, not as much choice in blades. I think RJX is also doing some. I know JR makes some as well but they're not often stocked in the UK. NHP do a few. I haven't had any need to go blade shopping lately so there could be more out now.

Excuses my lack of knowledge, what kind of benefits do you see changing blade types?

Do you mean the type of blades or a 2 and 3 blade setup?

Each type of blades has a different flying style. Some or smooth some are aggressive some are efficient some are not its all personal pref at the end of the day I have allways liked spin blades myself as an all-rounder blade. Halo I like as they fly very precise and smooth also

As Deanoo is saying, blades can sometimes really change the way a heli flies. You have the weight, airfoil shape, chord, stiffness, many things that affect how a blade 'feels', how it responds. So some people start to find certain blades they like. I have always been happy with Radix, for example, and Edge. I like some SABs but they haven't worked well on some of my helis.

In 700 size three blade sets, one really amazing set I have tried is the Helix 695s. They are unbelievably agile and precise, partly due to being very light. But so far I still like the NHPs best.
