  • While ive been away ! Lipo Prices ???????

Having taken approx 12 months out from flying Ive not really bought anything for a while . However I do notice the price of kits keep climbing but im not to bothered about that as Ive mentioned in other posts like the Align 700X etc

However I noticed a couple of posts this morning on Lipo packs which have had a big increase and some pilots are complaining , did I miss something or have they gone up by that much .

    Optipower 6s 5000mAh 50c £146.00

    Yep.

    End of October 2016 I paid £129.99 for Optipower 6s 5000mAh 50c

Jan 2017 they went up to £145.99 an increase of £16.00 or about 12%

I noticed today the Opti ultraguard has also gone up about £7.50 in as many months, I know, a small price to pay to save a model

I havnt noticed it on packs but kits have gone stupid! I was looking to buy a g570 in the summer last year and the kit price at the time was £400, now maybe 7/8 months later they are almost £600!! Greedy dogs!

10 years ago I remember T-Rex 600 owners paying £200 for a 6s 5000mAh pack. They were only 20C in those days too.

As a comparison, 10 yrs ago a 50" plasma tv would have set you back £1500. Today you can get one for £400. Things move on but not always up

What about the cheap LiPos, Turnigy and Zippy etc? I haven't bought any LiPos in ages. I hope mine are still alive, they should all be on a storage charge but haven't been touched for about four months now

You can still buy from HK but you pay a lot more in shipping

Do they not have the UK warehouse anymore? For a while there they were getting amazingly cheap.

I looked at HK today. The batteries that are available from the UK warehouse seem still quite reasonable. I didn't look at shipping prices though.

Nothing to do with the brand owners or UK shops being greedy mate, it is more down to the weak UK pound against most if not all other currencies, this coincidentally has a domino effect to the purchasing price, it may not cost the same to manufacture the packs by whoever does the OEM for optipower but to get these here to the UK now costs more and that is what we are seeing. In my industry we have seen an average cost increase of 8-15%, which is almost the same story in every industry to some degree or another.

The same rises haven't hit the FPV stuff I buy. A Kiss 24A ESC cost about £20 pre-brexit, it still costs about £20, depending who you buy from. My Fatshark HD2 were £485 when I got them in February 2016. The Fatshark HD3 that replaced them is £450 if bought today.

Lipos seem to be the exception, though I put that down to increased demand, and them being able to get away with it. I mean, Hobbyking used to sell 4S 1300s for about £8 before they became THE choice for a racing quad.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Yeah I'll have a browse soon just out of curiousity. Back when I got my first big-ish electric heli, I bought four Turnigy blue 5000mah 30-40C packs from HK and they ended up at something like £53.00 each with shipping and charges/VAT. This was around 2012 and before the UK warehouse. Since then it got even cheaper, down to around thirty something for Zippy Compact 4000s and even less for a pair of off-brand 4000mah packs a couple years ago.
