Hi all, I just thought I'd ask peoples opinions on what they believe to be a realistic crash cost? Say you had a 450 size model that was a couple of years old and it was going to cost £100+ to rebuild it, would you consider doing this, or would you cut your losses and strip and sell the parts on that could be salvaged...

Hey
i little more info. If it was my only heli and I couldn't replace it then I would try and keep it alive. If I had other helis or I was ready for a bigger heli I would cut my lossesKr

It depends on various things, what model it actually is, what bits are damaged etc. But I will say that unless the parts are very expensive it's not easy to do £100.00 damage to a 450 in my experience. I used to just plow my Trex in hard and never have anywhere near that kind of cost. Usually it would be blades, canopy, prob some servo gears, boom, maybe skids, feathering shaft and main shaft, maybe tail shaft.
If you have crunched things like the motor or ESC as well then it depends on what the airframe is as to whether it's worth fixing or going with something else.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Its a 450l, main and tail blades, both shafts, 2 cyclic servos ( both stripped and rebuilt but are real tight and graunchy), boom, rear servo carrier, front gears, swash plate rear cyclic hole elongated, boom support arms, possibly rear tail gear, the dreaded dfc links and a possible arm set.
Have calculated the cost with 3 new kst215's so would need to change the servo mounts to accommodate.
This is the trouble when you fly it through an immovable object... Last edited by Coxy; 24-02-2017, 02:03 PM.

When I had my first big crash on my Trex 450S it was around £120 of damage. Everyone was saying just buy another complete kit (which was about £140. I bought £120 of parts to rebuild it which then also gave me a lot of spares thanks to Align putting 2 of most things in each pack. I would have had just 1 of everything with a kit so it would have been false economy.Yes the big sigpic is coming back

Yes £100 plus damage is very easy to achieve on a 450 especially on the X XL S where a lot of parts were plastic. And my crash was on grass, had a full negative dump from around 6ft and destroyed it. A very brief chicken dance ejected the battery.Yes the big sigpic is coming back

Second hand?
Also sometimes you can get the electronics removed from a new kit with a price reduction. Only Raj appears to have stock.TDR (awesome machine) and TDF (almost built)

Yeah with the old 450S perhaps, but once I got an SE I just never had a crash anywhere near that costly. And with the SE and SEV2 the parts were very standardised so there was a choice of parts from Tarot or other brands I can't recall at the moment and generic stuff from China. I guess the newer ones have much more expensive parts.Originally posted by p4ddy View PostYes £100 plus damage is very easy to achieve on a 450 especially on the X XL S where a lot of parts were plastic.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

I cant really comment on trex specific prices as I dont own one, but I put one of my G380 in pretty hard on Friday with what sounds like similar damage. Its taken all 3 cyclics too so im looking at 200quid+ if I just replace the gears.
I think the best way to justify the cost is how much would you miss it if you dont fix it! Im not over the moon about my bill, but I know next time I fly it il be glad I repaired itLast edited by crash-test-tomo; 27-02-2017, 01:08 PM.Dan

Ouch, yes I had considered a 380, but I know someone who put one in as well, nearly £300 to put it right.. I really do like to fly the 450 and if the farmer had cut the tree down I'd never have hit it.. Parts on order , but poor stock in the UK, so banggood here we come...Originally posted by crash-test-tomo View PostI cant really comment on trex specific prices as I dont own one, but I put my G380 in pretty hard on Friday with what sounds like similar damage.
