  • Clubs around Reading

Is anyone a member of a club close to Reading? Looking to see what is about but the BMFA website isn't showing a great deal, but I know there are quite a few non-affiliated clubs around here.

    Pete,

If you find anything please post back as I live in Henley and fly in a local park. I did look into the club in Maidenhead, but struggled to get emails answered.

From memory I think that you are the other side of Reading from me, but if there is something close that would be cool ...

    Cheers,
    Mike

      Hi guys,

I don't really read this forum much, a friend told me about this post :-) A few of us fly at a field near to Burghfield, Reading (almost in the middle of J11 and J12 of M4) if that is any help to you.

It might be good to explain a bit of history....
We used to fly at another field quite close to the M4 which was a brilliant field for both helis and planks. Unfortunately we lost it when it and the 2 fields either side were made in to a solar farm (now visible from the M4 by the services)! During the transition to another field, we discovered that the guy who was taking the money was not paying the farmer as we were expecting him to have been. The 'newer' field was the only really viable one the farmer had left and a lot of old members (mainly plank fliers) decided it wasn't for them. He had told the farmer we didn't like it and hadn't paid and in the end he abandoned it along with not paying the farmer!

So, after smoothing things over with the farmer, a couple of us decided to try and hold on to what we had available. It isn't easy to find places to fly and we like it as it is local and out of the way with no real limits to when and what we fly.The field is massive. The only bad bit is 2 sets of power lines, but with the take off spot where it is we find them far away to not be a problem and it is fine for helis and hand launch stuff. When the grass grows between cuts, we just cut a circle. Every once in a while we setup the odd FPV race track over the other side too away from the heli patch.

Anyway... maybe too much info, but if you are interested let me know :-) Here is a video from the field... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uy3R0KUgBo

Another alternative club to try to join is Farnham - Home - lovely bunch of guys there! I haven't joined there yet, but considering it.
