I seem to be getting on really well with Goblin 500s.

I did totally destroy one - but that was largely because the pack caught fire on impact..!

I easily get at least 5:30 out of low spec Turnigy 5Ah packs, at 2450 RPM, which seems fine for what I do - but may not be for what others want.

The costs may well mount up compared to an Align super combo, but I'd be surprised if they were expensive compared to Mikado, etc.

One thing I think that great about them, is that there's massive flexibility in what motor, servos, etc you use; as the gearing can be changed, and there's lots of swash servo mounting options.

It might not be the best option for 'you', but I'm surprised it's ruled out.

i can't say the white/red canopy set for the gob500 isn't sexy, but just like the X5, might be too expensive. I think I have about £700 to spend on a RTF model with 2 lipos at least. (Minus FBL as I can use the spirit from my X3).

Had you thought of buying second-hand?? You will get a lot more "bang for your buck"

I have been coming around to it, but it would be pretty risky at this size. If my X3 fails on a maiden, no problem, If the X5 fails, big problem.
