  • Are you going to fly this winter?

I have my heli working and I just started to make some progress in piro half flips (sim). I can't afford to sit idle all season like last year. I feel embarrassed when I tell people I've been flying for almost 2 years and I'm this bad. All this sitting idle for weather, lack of funds after crash, etc. has made me waste too much time.

So I got some usb heated gloves to work off a lipo/battery bank. I can only hope there are more available days (no rain; <14mph average) so I can go out and fly my heart out.

I would sim all winter, but I am one of those people that need to fly irl as well. If I sim for too long, I lose touch with reality and the sim turns into more of a game so I don't really learn anything. So I need some flights between sim sessions.

I'm going to try to when the weather is at least dry. What messes me up this time of year is the low light, so I'm going to rig up some LED strips on a heli for those dark cloudy days. I have a Turnigy TX mit that works well enough and if it's too cold for that then it's just too cold to be out there anyway.

I wanted to LED-ify my helis, but I do not trust my DIY skills. I can get night blade stickers from perfect regulators, but I don't know if I can DIY a system for the canopy/tail

Yeah it's surprising that no one makes a kit where everything just plugs in, they could do standard 700, 600 size etc. And it would be nice if the LED strips didn't look so aweful when they're not running. In any case I bought lots of LEDs last year and never got round to doing anything with them. It's just a matter of figuring out the lengths needed and then wiring them together so that eventually you have a pair of leads that power the whole thing and then you run them off a small LiPo.

I just have to decide what heli to put them on, one that I have a spare canopy or two for.

            I'll be flying weather permitting.

Cold doesn't stop me flying, just the wind an rain at the same time.

I've brought some copper trace tape for some diy night blades, brought the wrong led's though.
So I just need some blade 550x blades, and some proper 1s led's.

I have the rest for the heli.

Although I still get a Night 230s to practice on, until the tail motor desoldered itself from the esc in flight.
            Awaiting repair now.

                .
Ignore the piro flips thing, I am only practicing them because I am taking a break from learning funnels and backwards circles. I can't seem to do circuits or funnels very well in front of me. It's been 2 years and I don't have a grasp on the basics.

The advantages of having a clubhouse over winter is fantastic. We fly all year round the only thing that stops us is persistent rain.I even had a few flights today after the rain stopped.

Your being way too hard on yourself. I've been flying over four years and I still dont do any of that stuff, but I don't care. For me it's a hobby, it's about enjoying myself not competing with the next guy on the flight line.

FWIW I fly pretty much every weekend regardless of season, only if it's howling wind and/or pi$$ing down would I not fly.. (yet I still cant do that stuff!).
