I found that the Blade Nano QX related perfectly well to upright CP heli flying. In fact more so than an actual micro CP heli like the mCPX which was less precise and had no piro comp. The nQX was a gem for learning CP cyclic control and it made my transition to CP helis very easy indeed. It felt very much the same. I remember at the time when I started several other people were starting off at the same time with the FP mSR or mSRx and struggling to string together more than a handful of flights without various setup or reliability issues. My nQX trucked on through many hundreds of flights without a single issue, which is priceless when you are learning. I know the XK K110 has a good reputation, but I prefer to use the same Tx for everything I fly and the OP has a DX6i to use with any of the Blade helis/quads.

I agree about the sim being the main key to accelerated progress, it's just nice to mix it up with micro flying to prevent boredom. I used to fly my nQX daily (10 packs or so) plus about 30 mins of sim time. You don't need anything else to acquire the necessary skills and then you can fly whatever floats your boat. For various reasons I stayed with smaller models (G380 is my biggest) but could fly anything with confidence. I still enjoy flying my 180 CFX, it's a very capable little heli, if not very beginner friendly. It's really not that hard to fly if you turn down the rates a little.
