  • OS 50 cutting out

Can anyone let me know why this motor will cut out as soon as throttle is given. It was started for the first time today. Are there any other settings besides the main jet (11/2 turns out) that need to be set.

Thought I was finished with the crashing thing!!

Is it the sxh-50, or the hyper?, I have a sxh 50, and the only other setting is the low end cam (should end up with the screwdriver slot not far from straight in the slotted copper colour fork bit)..hope that makes sense.
Oh and they can be very hard to turn

      Mack,

Its very hard to say. Sounds like the main jet setting is ok but that shouldn't matter at low throttle. Check the low end like Bender says. If its a Hyper set all the needles back to the factory settings and try again. Let it idle for a while and then nip the fuel tube. The engine should speed up slightly and then cut after a few seconds. If it runs for more than a few seconds, its too rich. If it cuts immediately, its too lean. Adjust if necessary and see if you can get it to run up.

      Good luck

Just out of interest, I have the 50 SXH on my raven and started with the needle at 1 3/4 turns. It didn't cut out, but lacked power. I eventually leaned it out to 3/4 turns on the main jet and it runs fine with no overheating.

There is a slim possibility that at 1 1/2 turns, the plug might be getting too wet which could cause it to die.

Yea Ant, mine is about 3/4 turns on the main also, running 15% and my low end screw is about 10 degrees clockwise (leaner) from stock
This is the non hyper tho which has a different carb I believe

The OS50 sx was always fussy on the adjustment needles - there was a mod you could do if you had the nerve - it involved reshaping the slot on the spray bar .
