  • Gaui X3 HV Setup

I am looking to build a 6s X3 and will be using this TURNIGY K-Force 40A Brushless ESC (UK Warehouse) ESC.

My question is without adding a 2s lipo how do I get all the servos running at 7.2V?

I know there is a CC ESC that I could use instead of the Turnigy esc but I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with Extra parts due to weight and inconvenience, a hobbywing platinum 50a Bec can output 7.4v @7A and fits perfectly on the x3 for £30-£40 depending where you buy it. It's also a good reliable esc and has a a good built in governor.

To answer your question though, remove the positive wire from the esc-Fbl connector and solder a small adjustable Bec input cable to your battery connector which will power your Fbl unit and servos at whatever voltage you like.

What about the gryphon polaris? I never used it for an HV servo setup, only as back up for a YEP ESC on my 450 size models. Never had an issue with it and it will do up to 8.4v BEC output. 9 grams...............

I'm not clever enough to know if it will handle the HV setup, so hopefully someone will chip in there.

But equally an ESC that does it all sounds like the good choice tbh. The HW ESC above is on my chase and it is fantastic.

I have the hobbywing platinum 50A on my little chase and its been faultless but it does beg the question "why" HV on a 450 size machine ? it seems kind of pointless ??

The HobbyWing 50A v3 is the ESC I'm using on both my X3's, and it's the one that's recommended on Helifreak by the majority of X3 owners. It's a low cost (£32 from HobbyKing I think), light weight ESC, with a very strong BEC built in. The BEC is the reason most pick it, you can run that at anywhere from 5V to 8V and it's about the strongest BEC in any ESC in this size. With modern high speed, power hungry brushless servos, a good BEC is an important part of your electronics.

That Turnigy ESC you linked can only supply 3A, I'd be concerned about a brownout in the air with that one. Personally I wouldn't trust it at all.

Well I've checked servo specs and not much difference between 6V and 7.2V so I'll just set the esc output to 6V and leave it at that.
            Thanks for the replies.

X3 is a great everyday 6S model with the Hobbywing 50v3 ESC and TGY-306HV servos all round. I run mine with BEC @ 7.4v no probs.
360mm Align blades work well and are very cheap, particularly when the B-surface ones are in stock.
Belt conversion is also a must in my opinion as it can survive the odd tail touch with the ground.
I'm playing with the 3 blade tail currently and so far found its great for lower head speeds.

Hobbywing 50v3 proper workhorse of an ESC. I ran my Goblin 380 on one with no issues, and it stayed cool. You won't be disappointed getting one, and it's not a huge amount more cash.
