  • starting over again!

Right straight down to it. Ive been out of the game for a couple of years now and am wanting to pick up the hobby/addiction again!
my question is which heli to go for? I previously had a trex 550 mcpxbl, trex 250/450's. My flying skills were ok......could do fff and
could do flips and steady inverted flight. Ive been loking at the blade 180 cfx as a starting point maybe but am open to suggestions.
I have around 300-350 to spend but that includes getting charger/tx and batteries also. want to get heli new but other stuff probably second hand.
any help would be very appreciated

Second hand logo 500, although think you may struggle with your budget to get a complete setup for that

Second hand 450 dominator would be my choice. Along with a dx6 from ebay. Could get a setup for your budget. I love mine! Also has cheap parts

A second hand heli in the 450 (325-360mm) range would be my advice. Personally i'd avoid the 180CFX. It's a nice little heli and flies well for it's size (though nowhere near as good as a 450) but micros are very easy to crash and the Blade doesnt crash well and is expensive to repair.

Where are you going to fly it? Is there a reason you wanted to go for a micro rather than something bigger? If you do specifically want a micro then the 180 CFX is a good choice and probably the best micro on the market right now. I like mine a lot, but it's not as good as a 450 or even a really good 300 like the OXY 3. It's probably close in performance to your previous Trex 250, but the 180 is very easy to work on. I haven't had a 250 but they look like a PITA to build and fix. If you do want anything larger then I guess it would have to be used kit, maybe something like a used Gaui X3 or Mini-Protos?

The Blade 230S may be a decent package to get you back in, you can pick it up with a transmitter for very little and it's a surprisingly capable model.

If you're after something bigger, there are a lot of second hand 360mm models popping up for sale at the moment. Gaui just released an updated X3L version, and MSH have the Protos 380 coming out too, there's definitely been an uptick in the number of second hand models being put up for sale in the last few weeks.

There are a couple of Gaui X3's for sale too, and I'm a big fan of that model. It flies well, is pretty much maintenance free, and crashes like a tank. All in all it's very cheap to run, and you can pick them up at bargain prices at the minute as the second hand market is pretty slow.

Here, this is the one I was thinking of. A Gaui X3, vBar, and 4 batteries for £200. Absolute bargain if you ask me:

That looks ideal for £200 and leaves enough in your budget for a half decent Tx and budget charger. I should really get an X3 myself as a beater!

thanks a lot for all your input everyone. Ive decided to go for the blade 230s rtf. I think the overall package is decent enough. I like the metal geared servos and the safe button if I were to get into trouble. I used to fly my 250 most of the time anyway. think the 180 would've been a reach with my lack of skills. should keep me going for a little while until I feel the need for something more capable

Sounds fair enough. The best heli is always the one that you can actually find time to fly. The 230s seems to be a popular choice for a 3D trainer.
