  • Left over spares

I am busy building a 90 SE and I have a few spare washers and set screws. I have been over the heli 3 times and checked the manual and can't find a loss. But the manual at one point states "Make sure you have no spare parts at this point" What's up??

    Hi Mack,

When you say 90 SE, I assume you mean a Raptor 90 SE?

If it is the Raptor, then I suspect the washers are shims, which may or may not be needed to mesh the gears on the lay shaft located behind the main gear, and the one the tail is driven from. Some times, but not always they need the shims placed between the white gears and the bearings in the case to bring the gears slightly closer together so they mesh better. The only other place shims can be used on the raptor is in the tail gearbox, to space the gear away from the bearing in the gearbox case, and slightly closer to the one effectively on the end of the tube drive.

The little set screws are most likely the ones that go in the ends of both the lay shaft and the tail output shaft where the little stainless steel pins go through to lock the white gears on the shafts. If you have a look at the ends of the shafts they are threaded down to the hole the pin sits in.

It is well worth taking the time to take the boom off and have a look inside the boom mount on the back of the frames, as the early raptors where known for these pins coming out, thus causing loss of tail drive. What I do on mine is locate the gear on the shaft and pour a good amount of blue locktite in the hole the pin goes through, then put the pin in and secure it with the set screw in the end of the shaft with more blue locktite.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

      Thanks Pete
I have checked all of those and only used two of the shims for back lash.
I have 3 small E Clips, 2 small washers and a set screw that are more of a worry than the left over shims. I did a bit of stripping down last night again and found nothing missing.

        Hi Mack,

There are a couple of places I can think the E clips would go, one is on the tail pitch slider, on either side of the pins holding the forks on to the slider itself. The other place is on the pins holding the A arms in place at tyhe front and back of the swash plate. The washers may go with the E clips at either of those two places.

The set screw is more of a mystery though, One place I did think was the swash, as it can be retensioned on the main shaft by use of a set screw in the side of it that clamps down on the nylon bush and bearing in the centre. I am assuming tyhe flybar control arms arent flopping around, so it wont be out of one of those, youve already checked the shafts for the tasil drive and it doesnt appear to be one of those. There is the one in the swash to check.

If you still cant find anywhere they might need to go, I would get someone else to check it over with you, just to make sure you havent missed anything. Two heads are always better than one, so between you, you might find something.

I hope you find somewhere to put these spares on the model

        Cheers,

        Pete.
