I ran out of my rapicon 20% in Jan 😭

so I thought ide change the bearings before going on optifuel 20% slv after 5 weeks and 2 gallons on my Trex 700 os91hzr
the bearings are fooked ( pitted rust and can't set the engine consistently )

so so was thinking of trying Weston pro synth 20% or Weston Viper

has as anyone used or got any opinion on Weston Fuel in the last year

not on a heli but I ran 3 gallon of Byron race 25 through my RB buggy engine and also the bearings were really rusty, I got a new OS 21 XZB changed to optifuel race 25, checked after every gallon and stock bearings still tip top 7 gallon in, so my experience I would not use any other now.

It's strange, I used Rapicon for years and there is no better fuel. Having used Opti in the past and suffered from the same issues as you I'd given it a wide berth. However, I've used nothing but Opti 20% for the last 3 or so years since Rapicon dried up and I haven't had the issues you're experiencing. The helis are stored in the garage, all year round, I bung the exhaust, close the carb and put the piston on TDC. Yes I have to replace bearings but I don't suffer like I used to. Don't run the engine out at the end of the day, just cut and bung. You won't have the rust problems you're seeing. Don't do the run out dry or afterrun bollocks, it's not needed, IMO

Rapicon, the best, it not one of the best fuels on the market IMHO. I am no chemist but what ever they make it with, type of oils or additives it just works, runs great and easy to tune and looks after the engine like no other fuel.

Never rated optifuel, the only ones who shout about how good it is are all the sponsored pilots, all the average joes have nothing but rust and tuning problems.
        Happy Flying! Thanks - Dave

I was waiting for this. I'm neither sponsored nor supported by Optifuel, never have been and in the past have been a major critic. But, I say it as it is. I have had no problems with optifuel in years. I have had to use Opti due to supply and nothing else, no alternative to speak of. Reasonably priced, available and no rust issues. Maybe it's down to my shutdown procedure or maybe the fuel itself but you should give it a go Dave you might be surprised

As for the tuning, probably more consistent than my favourite Rapicon

Ah...DaveG/rapicon/optifuel.....been here before ain't we, last time you said Andy should buy a gallon of rapi and clone it

Anyway, i used to have the rust problems with opti in the past as i can only store mine in the garage but i never did TDC or manually close throttle servo down from idle, i do now and get longer from my bearing.

Opti works well and not hard to tune.

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Waveydavey!!! Chill your beans son!! chill your beans!!! I never directed this towards you and i had no intention to do so either. My comment was or the the true sponsored pilots who always come on to defend the fuel for being the greatest and best fuel with no rust or problems when loads of us 'average joes' have had issues with the fuel. I use optifuel personally, again as yourself out of necessity. I still experience the rust and bearing changes but not on a massive grand scale so whether this is down to now using 20% over the previous 30% fuel i don't know, but i still do a bearing change at least twice a year with opti, with rapicon i could get a fuel season maybe more out of a set of bearings.

Yes, i remember the thread, and your point is .... what exactly?

I said in the thread if i recall that at that particular time, the features of rapicon where what people where wanting, a cheap fuel with good running properties and also cares for the engine. With rapicon it was win win on all accounts until availability because scarce.

My point is you talked bollocks and now your back spouting more ref the sponsored pilots....i know plenty of average joes using it with no problem.

If your having problems tuning and getting poor bearing life it's nothing to do with sponsored pilots so why bring them up?

And that is a perfect example why sponsored pilots don't post here anymore.

I used nothing but RotorRage for a long while, best fuel you can put in an engine IMHO. However, it's pricey, you only get a US gallon and basically you can't get it. So went onto Rapicon which is also very good but goes off very quickly once open and again is a tw@t to get hold of.
That leaves only one other alternative and that is Optifuel and I can honestly say, now that I've used it for some time now, that the bearings are not rusting any quicker than with RotorRage or Rapicon and a proper shut down procedure 100% does make a good difference to how long your bearings will last.
On this note I'd just like to thank my sponsor Optifuel for their continued support throughout the last two years.

I'm not sponsored, but seem to be having good results with the Opti 30 and now Opti 25 in my Trex700 / OS105HZR.
