  • Free Giveaway

I think one of the previous posts says it all.
A valued member wants to give something away and he states it's to be collected and he gets all kinds of S**t when he replies that it says in the advert Free collection only.
I think that is one of the reasons it's gone quiet on here because most of the knowledgeable and helpful members are sick of getting grief for trying to help and forward the hobby.

          here you go Tony

DX6i Free to a good home

I have a DX6i that I will not be using anymore. I used it for simming only over the last year or so but will no longer need it.

I don't know vintage it is. There is a number inside the battery compartment HE911LH if that is any help and it takes normal AA batteries.

I don't get on here to post or look to see who are new to the hobby who maybe in need so maybe some of the regulars can nominate someone for me.

This is a genuine offer to someone who needs it and will use it. I don't need anything for it. It is free apart from your time to come and get it.

I don't have a box or any packaging or the manual so whoever takes it would need to get to MK Heli Club where it can be collected.

I completely agree with the OP. I was so annoyed when I read that thread that I was inclined to post something that might have got me into trouble. I have calmed down a bit now. It is a sad thing that a generous gesture attracts criticism and negativity.

Didn't see the thread but having done something similar lately why should anyone giving something away come in for any criticism full stop. Whoever gave the grief should be ashamed of themselves, especially when it appears to be a member of the same club

I didn't read the full thread either but I saw the 'highlights' in the activity stream. I understand that someone asked if their son could have the DX6i if they paid shipping (a reasonable question IMHO even though the OP said collection). That person felt that the reply that they got from the OP to their enquiry was rude.

I can't say if the response was rude or not as I didn't read it, but hypothetically (if the reply was rude) the fact that you are generous enough to give stuff away doesn't make it ok.

Well, I know Andy well enough to call him a friend (many will have witnessed him standing in the rain all day at the last grass roots filming every flight) He's a straight talking no frills kind of fella and yes sometimes he can come across rude as many have found out. However, he's also one of the nicest generous blokes I know, I'm sure this didn't end up the way Andy or Phil intended it but you know what the written word can come across as unintended. Hopefully Andy relents and puts the Tx up again and accepts the hassle of going to the post office at his cost to send something he's offered for free

as we no, posts can not read properly or misinterpreted, I have seen him in the field all day filming for everyone else benefit, and then spends his evenings editing and uploading to youtube.

Didn't see anybody giving him grief about trying to help, or because he'd said collection only, but his reply to a pretty polite question was a bit harsh, and I can see how that could rub somebody the wrong way.

As an impartial observer (I don't know either of these guys) I thought it quickly turned into a very strange thread which to me read something like this:-

                          1. The offer of a free radio was a very nice gesture (There was another one offered recently which ended well)
                          2. Considering the lack of response, I thought it was actually fairly reasonable for someone to ask if he could possibly post it at their cost, even though it was apparently for the use of a 2 year old!?
                          3. Any reply that starts off with the words "This is not to be disrespectful to anyone" is quite likely to offend someone and obviously did in this case!
                          4. Then toys out of prams on both sides.

                          The end.

I don't think it's at all unreasonable not to post something. For some people maybe it's easy to post things but for me it's a real hassle and I often don't have a suitable box or packing material and it takes me a long time to wrap things up because I actually do it properly, then I have to walk to the post office and wait in a queue etc. so I can totally identify with that when it comes to giving something away (even to the point that some things aren't worth selling as it does not compensate for the hassle).

Absolutely, but it was the reply that seemed a bit OTT. "No sorry I don't have time to pack and post it" would have been enough, but the OP seemed determined to make a point and I'm not at all surprised at the result.
