I've got one called "the jig's up" which I use for deans and EC5s. Does the job nicely (until I get to really thick wire then I run out of heat and talent!).

Hard times at the moment in the offshore industry but I'm surviving!
I'm wishing the next 4 weeks away and looking forward to seeing you at the field again mate. Was good seeing you fly again!
Back on topic, I've an old version (obviously the V1) and I guess it does lose heat but still does the job (well, kind of when coupled with my meagre soldering abilities!).

The only problem with all these 'jigs' is that they wick heat AWAY from the soldering joint......I have always used a small piece of silicone tubing (easy and cheap to buy from ebay), push the connector into it, then hold it in a 'helping hands' type holder - all of the heat from the soldering iron then stays in the joint. I have soldered many connectors, EC5, etc with large gauge wire - you also don't need a large soldering iron, I'm using a 40w one and never had any issues.....

Cheers dude. Yeah that V2 of the above jig fixes that by having the bullet sockets in a heat resistant, but non conductive material. My soldering iron is fine - it's one of the butane ones from maplin and it's mint. I need new tips for it though.
careful you dont melt the deans, you need something to take the heat away and a high wattage soldering iron
i just use the crappy £2 crocodile clip job and never had issue since i started using a 100w iron.
