Well it says DX20 but it only appears to ship with a 9 channel Rx, X-Plus channel expansion module for around another 50 quid. Think that gives 8 more to make 17 channels, must be 3 more in there somewhere. Heated grips would make more sense for us winter flyers but perhaps the designer had a leather fetish, maybe the grips will be available in different colours for the fashion conscious among us. What's betting the first reviewer does not use all 20 channels
This is a bit silly imho! Surely they should have made a DX12 as they make a 12ch Rx...???
That would've been much more useful and perhaps come in at an affordable price point!
For £800 of my hard earned pounds I would expect at least colour display!
Barry
Is there actually any point in having a colour display? Serious question.

A nice three colour display won’t make you fly any better! From my experience with industrial displays all it will do is push the price up. If you desire a “touch” screen then it goes up again. I am quite happy with a two colour display and a few hundred pounds left in the “crash” fund.....for when the inevitable happens!!

Your going to sell lot more mobile phones than radio control equipment. Its a small specialist market and that also bumps the price. I have no idea why RC gear is so expensive. There's nothing in the average transmitter.

Maybe because most of us in this hobby are quite happy to pay what they want to charge us.
Too many helis and planks, well that's what she says.

You answered your own question there. Economies of scale.

The functional advantages arent many but the cost is also not a big issue. You can pick up a fully functional mobile phone with large colour touch screen for less than £25 delivered from China:
I would have thought a backlit e-ink type display (like you get on e-readers) would work best on a Tx. I would imagine glare could be a big issue with a colour mobile display - especially a really cheapo one. I know how bad it can be on mobile phones in bright sunlight, although that's not really a problem today though!

Economy of scale would of course apply equally to any form of screen. In fact colour touch screens are probably made in far higher numbers so if the Tx can be designed to use a standard type of screen then economy of scale should favour colour and touch.

Yeah I'm not really talking about cost, just what type of screen would actually be better for use on a Tx. I wouldn't want a colour screen if I couldn't see it properly on a bright day. If I'm reading numbers or looking at graphs on a Tx screen, I really don't care about colour in the slightest, only clarity/contrast in variable lighting conditions. I suppose a colour screen looks the part on a high-tech gadget, but then an understated high quality monochrome screen could look really classy too.

Yea I wouldn't like to say what was best but we do all have colour screens on our phones that we use outdoors without too much trouble, I can't really see why a Tx should be any different?
I think colour is actually a very good idea. Using a friends P3P with an iPad the colour in the display makes quickly finding certain pieces of info much faster once you learn to associate the colour with the parameter.
I also think fast acting E-ink would be the best solution and I think I did see somewhere a colour E-ink panel on the way, the technology can only improve and I think that would be the way to go.
Cheers

I thought about that and I know the screen on my phone is pretty useless in sunlight, especially when trying to take photos etc. I think we don't tend to notice so much because we naturally shade our phone screens when reading them. But if you are glancing down at your Tx screen while flying to read telemetry or whatever, it needs to be crystal clear. The colour satnav display in our car gets totally washed out in bright sunlight too.
So I'm not convinced colour LCD is the best choice for outdoor use. I'd take contrast over colour any day.

I'd take reflected over radiated any day, that's why I agree E-ink is the way forward technology permitting..............
