Many thanks for the recent information given by members on 'Flybarless unit position' thread I started a couple of weeks ago, I've now got to the wiring stage and found that just below the main spindle for the 'Brain' unit is ideal as it suited the servo wire length's etc. I've found that removing the left hand side frame has helped to enable me to position wires and see what I'm doing. The bottom right is the Optigaurd 430 with a caddy for the Lipo so it can be remove for storage. Just the skids to make using 2mm fibreglass board that I also used for the side frames, then its the big moment the maiden flight..............

I would be a little wary about mounting the fbl unit directly under the large rotating mass of the main gear. It just seems to me that there is going to be some unavoidable high frequency vibration in the main gear that will cause a problem because the fbl unit is mounted so close. To me, the tailboom support platform would serve well as a mounting point even though it is somewhat conventional. High frequency vibration also gets dampened very quickly with the more material it has to pass through and I would suggest that vibration levels on the tailboom support platform would be considerably less than directly below the main gear.Graham

Thank you for the useful information, I would like to keep the wiring sort of hidden so I can easily put the 'Brain' unit between the skid mounts at the bottom where I originally had it before I started doing the wiring. The screw holes are the same centres so I can transfer the frame support brace with the FBL mount, Thanks for info once again.Trex 550 DFC, 550L Dominator (speed), 600N, 700 DFC x 2, 700N

Supposedly the best place to put the fbl is directly under the main shaft, attached to it im not sure though lol the only problem I can see you having is how are you going to reach through the frame to plug in the micro USB for programming? I do use the Bluetooth module with my brain but for a fresh setup I would much rather have the laptop in front of me than my phoneDan

There is a gap............ just the angle the photograph was taken from, The FBL mount is bolted between the frame with a gap of 3mm to the bottom of main spindleTrex 550 DFC, 550L Dominator (speed), 600N, 700 DFC x 2, 700N

I think 'bolted' is the operative word there dude, the brain isnt as sensitive to vibration as other units I have tried but I have always (and I guess so has almost everyone else) mounted them on the foam/get type sticky pads.. And maybe a Velcro strap if possible, which I always assumed was to absorb some of the hf vibes from the frame??
Il be interested to hear what you think of the brain on there when its frying too by the way dude, I dont think my brain really likes the 600 tail on my 550 so iv been thinking about going for the shorter boom like the dominatorDan

Interesting, I've an early 550DFC which was supplied with the 600 boom and is the model I take out every session, I call it my chucker as its hit the ground hard on many occasions, its tail heavy as they all tend to be but despite this and all the abuse it still flies very well with the brain unit mounted just above the rear skid. I made an Alum plate for the mount and I always use the 'Milton' method on all my models, gel pad with silicon tube over a cable tie. Today I made the skids and horizontal fin for the PJS550........ more pictures soon.......Trex 550 DFC, 550L Dominator (speed), 600N, 700 DFC x 2, 700N

Maiden flight had to be indoors as the weather is no good for any outdoor flying, Rain and more rain.... and if its not raining its too windy, still the maiden flight went very well. Cant wait to try it outdoors now !
