  • Blade nano QX and CP

Anyone with a Blade nQX and a CP heli, can you tell me how different they are in control with the nQX in agility mode?

It's the over correction I'm struggling with where once it's going in a direction it keeps going - is that what helis do?

Yes, I do aim to get a Tx and SIM in the next few months.

In short they fly exactly the same (upright of course!). I actually used the nQX as a real life sim when learning to fly CP helis. It worked perfectly for me. Obviously the nQX has to be in agility mode to switch off the self-levelling. I'd highly recommend it from first hand experience

Edit: I see you already have the quad. So yes a CP heli will behave the same way. It takes a while to get used to the nQX in agility mode but once you get it there's no looking back and you'll have no issues flying a CP heli in the same way.

Yup, that sounds normal, and it's the hardest part about transitioning from quads to CP helicopters. You go from a model that needs you to hold very large stick movements to get it going, to one that will zoom away with the slightest touch.

It takes a while to develop the feel for those small stick movements, a good tip early on is to just nudge the stick in the direction you want to go, and then return to centre.

Those small jabs of the stick will help to keep the movements small and the speed down, and over time you'll find you become much more gentle on the sticks in agility mode and the flying will start to come naturally.

Err.. well, I learnt to fly CP helis before I tried a nano-QX in agility mode. I can fly CP helis reasonably well I think. But for the life of me, I cannot easily control that little quad in agility mode!

It's so small and fast! Even micro CP helis aren't that twitchy I found - and large helis are much more docile!

But in principle, yes - CP helis need constant corrections to maintain a hover, but I personally think the nano-QX is more difficult!

Tom - Try 40% Expo at full rates, then it feels about the same as a typical micro CP heli only it's more crisp and precise in its movement. I must admit though I practiced a LOT with the nQX and maybe that's why I didn't have a single crash with my first CP heli (130X)!

Will I be better off with a DX6 bound to it rather than the RTF transmitter? I wasn't going to be buying one yet.

                Well I've broken my nQX.
Split on the rear right blade guard strut, now it makes a horrible buzzing noise at certain frequencies - namely the frequency of stable hover.

S'pose I'll have to buy a new main frame and have a go at rebuilding it all. My first repair of a flying thing

If it's just the blade guard vertical strut, then just cut them all off and it will fly even better. Or just CA the split. Otherwise you're facing a £5 repair cost for a new frame and maybe 10-15 mins hard labour!
That's a good effort to break it by the way.

Thinking about a Blade Nano CPS as my first heli now, at the same time as buying a DX6. See I knew this would get expensive!
