That's interesting as I have lots of 6s 5000mah packs anyway and wouldn't need to buy more which would offset the extra cost of the kit compared to the cheaper align trex 500l

Snack pilot? Is that something to do with eating all the pies, or just 3D?

A 6s 5000mAh battery is an awful heavy lump to be hauling around on a 425-460mm blade heli. The weight must hit performance a lot.

The X4 II does look like a really nice heli though...

Why not just get a Goblin 380 then to have something smaller and more convenient in your fleet? Get the carry bag for it and you've got an easy grab-and-go package that should compliment your larger Goblins nicely.

It's personal preference obviously, but I'd take the Gaui X4 II over the G380 any day, based on 'bigger flies better' if nothing else. Plus the X4 would take Ian's existing ESC and batteries so would probably work out cheaper.

The x4 II takes 5000mah packs nicely and using the kit motor or a similar 550 class lump, it has enough punch to make you forget about lipo weight.
Flight times are good, Parts are always available as the nx4 and x5 use a lot of the same bits and it's a very low maintenance heli that's cheap to fix even compared to a 380.
ive got a spare scorpion motor and pinion lying around, just pm me if your interested or need any help

Gaah, I gotta read posts more carefully. I read it as '325mm' blades, and was thinking 450 class machines... Yeah the 500 Dominator is a different beast, and probably the about as big as you'll get and still fit in under 900mm.

Hi Ian, sorry I didn't reply to your text - forgot! Thought I'd reply here since you started a thread...

As others have said you're basically in the 425 blade class. I can't speak for the x4, but I have had experience with the goblin 380, trex 500, protos and the logo400. Avoid the 380 - if you're after high flight count then you don't want an overpriced ship, you need something cheap to repair etc.

The 500 dominator is an option, although this design has hardly changed over the years so it feels like a bit of a forgotten one to align. The one I flew felt heavy and was very noisy.

The protos is a great machine, very light, inexpensive and stealth quiet. I loved it. With lightness rigidity can suffer, so after a hard crash can take a lot of repairing. Saying that I had some pretty nasty ones where I popped links back in and flew again. One thing with Msh, they're a small company so it can take a while for parts to be restocked. I'd stock up when they come in. Fast lads have the protos on special at the moment, at that price it's a bargain. I flew 6s 2700's and you could easily squeeze 6mins out of a pack.

I also had the logo - which granted is better as a 400se (conversely I tried stretching the protos and that was a waste of time) - it's a great model too. Again it's a very old design with no driven tail in autos, but as it's a logo it sure does fly well.

As with all of these machines, don't skimp on servos. Align 525's I found to be rubbish and think I wound up using mks ds660a+ and a full size tail servo (essential in the protos).

                      Hope this helps mate, Phil

If you can make space consider Gaui X5, Logo 550SX, Goblin 570. The biggest you can get the better. The Goblin 380 is ok but flight time is less if doing 3D. I've got 4.5mins out of a 380 with 6s 2200 Mah mild 3D / sport.

He already has a Goblin 570 and a Goblin 700. I thought the OP's idea was to get something smaller that was more convenient to carry around.

                            Hi Ian,

I have a Protos500, which I have stretched. It was light before the stretch and now it is even better - but I like light models. This means the flight times are good even on 6s3000 packs and there is plenty of punch. The tail does need have a full-size servo on it and better tail blades than the stock ones. It fits 2700 and 3000 packs with the canopy and I have flown it with up to 4300 without the canopy (a bit nose heavy but Vbar copes)

It is on Vcontrol so you are welcome to have a play with it when we are next down the field, or you could borrow it to see how you get on with it as I am not getting to use it much at the moment.

                            Regards

                            Kevin

well I dont know your car but in mine I can easily fit a 700 behind the driver and passenger seat in the foot space going across sitting nice and snugg - not sure if that isnt an option for you as it wouldnt require any space in the boot at all ....

I have a focus estate. I could put 1 on the back seat or even as you suggest behind the seats but I often have to leave my car in public parks and in the boot no-one will be able to see it. Also I really want to keep it in the car at all times and often have people seating on my back seats and don't want to have to keep taking the heli out.
