  • Hubsan X4 woes

Guys, I posted a little while ago that my son's Hubsan X4 became erratic and unflyable on Christmas Day. I replaced all the props etc and re-calibrated the tx but no joy. So, suspecting a fault with the on-board control unit, I bought another X4 quad and that worked fine for a week or so but is now misbehaving in a similar way. Basically, you can hear the motors and props pulsing away to correct some perceived drift and I'm putting in full stick deflections just to stop it running away one way or another.

So, what the hell is going on? Are these things prone to failure or is there a way of resetting them in some way? Feeling a bit cheesed off at the moment, any advice?

I take it you've tried the stick waggling reset with it on a flat surface thing? when mine gets a bit squirelly that usually sorts it out.

    Search youtube for "hubsan calibration"

Yes, tried that a few times, but it's just not as easy to fly as it was before.

Mine's always been ok but I've never really stuffed it hard, I've not even had to change a prop yet. So if the calibration thing didn't work that's the extent of my wisdom I'm afraid.

There's nothing mechanical like some hair wrapped around a motor shaft is there, or something binding against a motor? I've not a huge amount of experience with the X4, but both of my girls have had theirs for a year now with no problems other than one motor that needed replacing after a bad crash.

I've only ever heard good things about the Hubsan X4 too. As mentioned above - hair wrapping around the motors is a often a problem for in-house RC models.

My lad has one for 4 months now. Crashed it plenty of times including me. We have a dog and the hair in between the props and and motor makes it erratic. Are there the motors sitting down correctly? After a big crash they pop up as well as having to clip the arms back together, you need to check the motors are all even.

If you blow on the props do they all spin freely? If not chances are the shaft has droped in the motor. Had this happen a few times causing behaviour you describe.
Using a pair of side cutters grip the bottom of the shaft and use motor can for leverage to pull it back up.(hope this makes sence)it takes a bit force to pull it back up but motors should spin freely again.
Im still on origanal motors from 2 years ago and must have had to do this at least 20 times and had no problems afterwards and still going strong.

                  Hi guys,

Yes to al the above checks - motors spinning freely, props changed and hair (Dog's and Daughter's!) removed. Still not quite right.
