  • BMFA cover on public fields?

Hey guys, just about to sign up with the BMFA, mainly for the insurance cover in case anything happens to my helis while up in the air.

Just wanted to know if the BMFA covers on public fields also, I think it does but I've heard it doesn't?

    Thanks.

Its only third party insurance so only covers you if you hit someone or their property & i believe its only valid at approved fields, i dont use them personally, i use the scottish equivelant & thats the rules here.

my belief is that the 3rd party works unless model flying is specifically disallowed, (like with a bye law in a public park) but check with bmfa office.

Dont spend more flying models than it costs to fly for real

The BMFA has a membership called "country membership" and as long as permission from the land owner is given before flight you are covered as normal I believe!

Just got mine through. Still reading it.. Will get back to you if I find anything relevant.

One thing of note. There is the first mention of an excess on the insurance, but no note of any figure?

Thank you very much, I'm holding off getting it until I know this. I should prob just contact them hehe, no doubt they won't give a simple answer though...

50 pounds excess from what I read, it says something about property damage, so perhaps that's only for when you damage property?

(Sorry not into this whole insurance thing).

I think...BMFA cover covers you when you have the landowner's permission.

Flying a heli in a public park without specific permission may be a problem. Having said that, unless a LA has posted notices that flying is banned then it's probably AOK. Getting into a quiet corner should be fine. Nothing there reckless. But why not ring them and check?

Bet they don't know mind you!!!!!!!!

Well, I just sent it off, 15 quid at the end of the day and it'll cover my helis and cars until the end of this year.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll be sure to read through all the rules when they send me all the info, anything I'm not sure about I'll just get in touch with them.

Sorry, didn't say that very clearly, I'm not worried about my models, only if it hurts/damages something else.

I didn't expect my heli to be replaced every time it went in... Lol....

Wish they did do insurance for our models tho lol ... Ahh well can only dream i suppose .. I always had one rule since starting out in this hobby .. I would rather kill my model than hit a person ..For the £28 it costs for the BMFA its well worth it

Haha, we can only wish . Mind you house insurance covers any problems inside the house with our models.

I agree, I would never hit anyone else, never even close, but you never know if someone is working on some kind of 2.4GHz blocking device (ha) or if a part was to fail in mid air etc...

There are 2.4ghz jammers around but dunno how effective they are
