Costs as much to build too, based on most of the builds I see. It's just daft comparing a G380 with a Trex 450L.. The former typically costs about £750 RTF, the later around £370 (half the price). If you were going to compare it to a Trex heli then compare it to the 550L as it's about the same price.

If you want something to throw about that doesn't cost too much to crash (inevitable when learning 3D) then a 450 is probably the way to go. I've been through a few myself and finally settles on a Compass Warp 360. It's got a very low parts count (doesn't even have a feathering shaft!!) and flies brilliantly.

If you want something with a bit more poke and size then perhaps look at a 500 size. Still not too bad on crash costs, the align 500L looks superb, I personally fly an MSH Protos 500 which I find to be brilliant too. Againi its got a very low parts count and in over 600 flights its only needed a set of dampers and a main shaft (only as it went rusty after flying on a beach!!)

A 500 will at the very least equal a G380 but cost far less to build and cost less to crash. At the end of the day any of the current crop of 450-500 sized machines will do what you need, don't discount a 3s powered 450 either! More power than you'd think as my 3s powered TT mini Titan v2 proves!

If I was going to do a 450 on a budget, I'd get a Gaui X3 for sure. You only ever hear good things about it and it seems cheap to crash - especially compared to a larger 500 size heli. The MSH Mini-Protos is another option too and very well priced combos.
Having said that I just bought a Goblin 380 KSE, but I'm under no illusion that it will cost more to run than either of the above.
SAB Goblin 380 KSE - latest love thang
Lynx OXY 3 - my mini flagship!
Blade 180 CFX - field beater for new moves
Blade Red Bull BO-105 CB 130 X - scale fun flying at the field when the tail isn't broken, which is not often.
        Blade mCPX - sold

Blade Nano QX - house fly of choice
Blade mCX2 - retired but will be back when the kids get a bit bigger

        Spektrum DX8 - for everything
        ne
Xt sim - the sim I started out with
Heli-X sim - my new favourite sim!

Plenty of food for thought, liking the sound of the protos model, but its all down to personal choice at the end of the day.... What ever you decide to purchase go fly and enjoy...

Get yourself a gaui x3 basic kit, Lynx 380 stretch kit, hobbywing platinum 50a esc, I've get a gaui scorpion 6s motor , then you just need lipos and a fbl system, but if your still fresh I'd forget about a bailout, with a 450 there's more chance you'll save it than hit the switch.
i can't slate the 450l, I quite like it, but for a 450 3d trainer that you expect to push, metal doesn't crash or cost anything like plastic parts.
