  • Getting a damaged screw out

Can anyone please give me some advise.

I've got this screw, one of four that hold the Boom on the main body, but the bloody head is well mangled, no screwdriver I process can grip it and it's bugging the crap out of me.

Is there some way of removing this bugger so I can replace it with a hex headed tapping screw.

    Thanks for any help.

Had the same thing on my XL.

I drilled it out and put some bolts all the way through as you will need to replace the boom on occasion and these self tappers wear out eventually.

    Cheers

If there is some of the head left you could try using a Dremel to cut a slot in the head and use a flat bladed screw driver in the new slot. I've done this a few times and it works well.

          I bought a set of these http://www.choiceful.com/choiceful-i...ces-28997.html

I thought they'd be made of cheese but actually they work quite well, got me out of trouble a couple of times - got mine from Maplins

Thanks chaps, you've all come out trumps.

I had an idea it would be a drill job, so I'll obtain some stainless steel thread and nuts and secure them from the outside.

Hopefully it should look quite nice once once completed.

The brute force and sheer ignorance approach of a pair of pliers on the head of the screw might also work if the head of the screw protrudes.

Thanks mate, trouble is the screw head is about 10mm in the shell, but a battle plan has been made and she'll be out soon.

It isn't causing any trouble flying, I just hate things like this happening.
