    Hi Guy's

this may have been cover already, but what would you say is the best flybarless unit, I've just got a trex 550 dominator with the Gpro but see align have dropped it for the beastx. so thinking of changing it for something that will still be supported down the line

Personal preference comes into play of course but for a superb flying FBL with all the stability and rescue 'bells and whistles' the Spirit Pro is unbeatable for the price.

I use the mini vbar which in my opinion is one of the best out there, you can pick one up now for around £80 second hand.

I would stick with the Gpro initially, if you find its not for you then change it. I use a 3GX on a 450 and everyone slates the 3GX, however I think it flys OK. It's all personal preferences and if it was me I'd give it a shot (the Gpro).

They're all slightly different and any answer you get here will be based on personal preference.

              1. Spartan VX1, cyclics are superb out of the box, tail needs a bit of work and they're about to release new firmware that should sort out any issues, but for most it's good enough. The superb datapod for adjustment and I believe Smartphone apps in the near future.
              2. V Bar of many flavours, perhaps the original and still at the top of the tree. Used by most of the top boys with a nice programming interface both on the PC and phone. Cyclics good out of the box and the best tail out there on the units I've flown
              3. BeastX, fantastic unit out of the box and very easy to setup. Great cyclics but the tail still lets it down a bit although again if it's good enough for DB then I reckon it's good enough for most of us.

There are many more, I've flown 3GX which I quite liked and in the air was predictable. I've flown a lot of clones as I like fiddling and couldn't apart from a dodgy plastic cased BeastX clone find any difference in them.

The Spirit gets very good reviews and is very reasonably priced, theres the Brain in it's many incarnations and the list goes on and on but the only person to work out what's best for you is you. Go with any of the top 5 and you'll probably think it's the best thing since sliced bread especially if you haven't flown FBL before. Once you do you might change and only then will you be able to say what's best for you.

Interesting you say that. Most people seem to have a pretty low opinion of the original 3G however I had one on a 450 a couple of years ago and it seemed very good. I thought it was very easy to setup too.

I think the problem with Align Dave is they couldn't quite get it right and pilots capable of testing it to it's limits found it's shortcomings. Most of us wouldn't get close this but once a company decides to chop and change as they did and have and ended up with a 3rd party unit you have to say they've given up. I wouldn't want to carry on with a unit that wasn't going to get the support it needed IE GPro, Align have said as much in the bundling of BeastX. Let's not forget though that it's Align that started the ball rolling with mass produced reasonably priced FBL units.

Demon for me because it flies really well. It's not the easiest to set up though.

Probably the big decision is if you want 'rescue' functionality. If not then it's maybe worth sticking with the Gpro and see how it goes, most say they fly fine.

If you want rescue then that means a change and narrows down the choice somewhat.

Anyone know if Spartan are going to add a rescue system to their flybarless controllers,be nice if it was a firmware update to the original controllers, probably more likely to be a brand new flybarless unit though.

Yup. It's something Angelos has definitely looked at, and from what I've heard it could potentially be released as a firmware update, but it's *very* early days yet. Angelos also isn't one to rush into things, so he wouldn't release it until he was absolutely 100% sure it was ready.

Put it this way, I wouldn't hold my breath! If you like the Vortex, buy it for how it flies today, not for features it may have in the future.

And to answer the OP's question. If the Gpro is flying ok for you I'd leave it alone, by all accounts it's a reasonably well behaved unit and there's plenty of other things to spend your money on in this hobby :-)
