    Hi

Would any of you consider using an optiguard on a nitro model? or is it just an un required addition?
I only ask as recently I had a break during a flight on a battery lead to a regulator and lost all power to the cyclic - tail and beastx on a nitro model, not a good sight watching the model do its own thing, and having no control.

thoughts appreciated, and best price for them if possible.. cheers

If I had a Nitro then yes.

After loosing all control due to power loss its probably a good idea

I don't feel the need using a life pack with 2 feeds in to my vbar.

If i used a reg then i probably would.

Don't forget that Scorpion make a unit called a Backup Guard. This is a small 500mAh lipo with a regulator circuit built onto it. It gives you a 5 Volt supply to your radio should your normal supply fail. At £20 they have to be good value. I have used two of these on my 6 cell aerobatic planes and now have one on my Trex 550 Dominator. Well worth a look in my opinion.

I would defiantly use one on a nitro heli.

To everyone's disgust I use the Align 2:1 reg on my nitro 700 This coupled with an Opti-guard HAS saved my heli!!! Actually this happened at 3D Champs this year after a flight I did, Alex noticed that the flashing lights were going. Turns out one of the brittle wires on the 2in1 had broken off. With out a doubt his must have saved me a few hundred quid!!

The scorpion product is good but you have to remember to turn it on and also keep it charged. The Opti-Guard is fully automatic

Scorpion Bug is a good option, but you must remember to turn on. where as opti guard does its self.

I have Optiguards on all my helis, I have used the Scorpion but remembering to keep it charged and switched on/off was a pain . As above there fully automatic but I do unplug it during the week when not in use ! And yes definitely on a nitro .
